    Hi,

I'm fairly infrequent into the forums and i haven't figured out how to get alerts for PM's as yet.

    Anyway, what you asked me...

No, i've never found anyone refuse to fill up my owned tank. BUT, the bigger companies that mainly want to deal on contracts will end up transferring your call through to 2 or 3 different people before you can speak to someone about obtaining a price. And even then they have to go away to think about it. It's no wonder they need to charge such higher prices to pay for there inefficiency.

In contrast with Listers, i get a price straight away, on phone or email, no messing around, it's always their best price and i've ordered from them probably 80% of the time. The remainder of the time is when someone else was able to offer a better lead-time and i've usually paid the same after negotiation.

As for the actual tank, the delivery driver gives it a visual check when they deliver and i'll have it checked and serviced in a few years time.

Hard to think what the cons could be, they're for others to decide as it'll based on personal viewpoint. i.e. some people probably like a fixed price, but to me if it's, on aggregate, above market rate, i'm not interested. One downside is that you don't get to spread your payments month by month, but again, i'd prefer to pay a lower overall price even if it means a big payment out every 4 months or so.

    Cheers

    Bill

    Hi Bill,

Many thanks - you started this thread back in 2008 (here!)

I see from your previous posts that you bought your above-ground tank off Calor, and Lister Gases have done quite a few of your fills. If you're in Lister's area you must have quite a few possible suppliers: have any refused to fill your user-owned tank?

Can you give us a short tutorial on owning your own tank - pros and cons, please?

    Cheers,
    LV

    A quick "heads up":
    • Extra Fuel have now posted an updated April price;
    • The Cardiff Gas price appears to have bottomed out - the quoted April price is 46ppl, as it has been since January.
The graph earlier in this thread has now been updated to show these "correct" April prices.

    Calor - continuation

I have recieved a reply re my earlier posts:

Thank you for your patience regarding your account query.

Renewal letters were signed in 2009 and again in 2011. I have attached copies for your records. The renewals would have been sent with accompanying terms & conditions.

Calor prices are variable unless we agree a fixed period. This is generally the case for new customers or renegotiated prices on renewals. Fixed periods vary depending what offers are available at the time. We have seen fixed prices for 6, 9, & 12 month periods. When fixed prices end the price is reviewed currently every 6 months. In the past prices have been reviewed on a 9 or 12 month basis as per the terms and condition you signed to.

I have attached the terms and conditions you would have signed to. The pricing information is in either 6.2 or 6.4 depending on the year you are looking at.

Wholesale prices move up and down all the time. Calor buy their stocks by agreeing a buying price well in advance before the winter periods. We then fill our storage areas at the prices agreed. Unfortunately when we are required to replenish the stocks if the wholesale price has dropped we have already agreed the buying price for the seasons. This together with the growing costs of vehicle maintenance ,vehicle replacement and diesel all contributes to the cost of LPG.

Calor endeavour to operate a stable pricing policy and we have not seen an increase to the standard domestic tariff (59.4ppl) for over 12months. The majority of our domestic customers all pay the same price .We are aware of the competition and the need to respond effectively by offering reduced prices or incentive prices for new customers or by renegotiating prices for our loyal customers. These introductory offers vary with reduced pricing, gas credits and fixed period not dissimilar to that of the mortgage industry. The difference is when your introductory price or renegotiated price and fixed period ends we don’t increase you automatically back to the standard tariff or base rate. Instead, we review your pricing and stagger the increases within these periods. Many customers may not reach the standard tariff before their minimum term and are free to renegotiate with Calor at this point or chance the competition.

Calors pricing is very competitive and offers what we like to think is a superior service to that of our competitors.

In June when your contract is ready for renewal we will be in a position to renegotiate your price with any offers which are available at the time

We value all our customers and strive at all times to give you the best service available.

I have sent a reply stating again I have no contract regarding the fixed price they allude to. I have asked them to revoke price increases made under those conditions. I have told them I will be referring this matter to the OFT.

If anyone is with Calor and is paying more than their stated standard tariff may I sugest they get in touch with them and get their price reduced.

I would be interested to hear if any other Calor customers have had similar issues with regard to 'fixed' contracts.

I just feel Calor are trying it on and are arbitarily adjusting prices as they feel they can get away with.

After reading this thread and realising how stupid I have been to stick with Flogas I have been attempting to switch suppliers. Unfortunately I have been told that because of the new regulations my tank is in the wrong place - less than 10 metres from overhead electric cables - and I cannot change. Any thoughts???

    Calor siting regs:

Above ground tanks must not be sited directly beneath electrical power cables. Where the voltage is below 1kV, the tank must be located 1.5 metres from a plane drawn vertically downwards from the power cables. Where the voltage is 1kV or greater, the distance must be increased to 10 metres. Where there is any doubt as to the cable voltage guidance should be obtained from the local power supply company.

Get in touch with your electricity company, depending on cost I would look into getting the cables re-routed or put underground, then you would be able to switch if this is the only problem.

  • Hi

I've been in a contract with Flogas for 2 years, which has just ended. Over this time the price increased from 46ppl to 60ppl. On each occasion it increased, we were supposed to have received written notification but never did.

In addition, we had a leak from our tank which Flogas came and repaired without charge.

Our usage, given the amount of gas we have had delivered and have been charged for, is now about £400 per month!!! Yes, we run an Aga and had the central heating on a timer over the winter, but this seems extortionate to me.

I have written to Flogas to express my concerns and request a credit, but to no avail. Today, they replied and offered me a £150 credit 'as a gesture of goodwill', but this is nowhere near the amount I am claiming from price increases that are in breach of contract, and the loss of the gas during the leak (volume of gas leaked unknown). I am looking at nearer £900 credit.

Can anybody give me advice as to where to go from here. Flogas are being stubborn and refusing to acknowledge that they are in breach - surprise, surprise - and when I suggested we go to Energy Ombudsman for resolution, they pointed out that they weren't governed by them.
I refuse to let them get away with this, so any advice or help would be appreciated.

  • Hi
I am currently in a 2 year contract (1st 6 months fixed price) with MacGas which started when I moved into a new property last Oct. Yesterday I received a letter from Flogas saying that they had bought MacGas and they would now be our new supplier. They stated that we didn't need to do anything and that our existing terms and conditions would be the same.
Does anyone know if I can get out of this contract due to a change of company owner?
I can't see anything specific in the contract regarding this. It does state in the definitions that "MacGas" means GB LPG Limited or its successor or assignees and in the assignment section that "MacGas may transfer the agreement, its rights and/or any of its obligations to any company which is a member of the MacGas group of companies".
Thanks in advance for any advice.
