german style bread with cream cheese and ham, or tomato, or cucumber. due to its low wheat and high rye content it doesn't squash so easily in a bag, doesn't go clammy and will fill them up for longer due to high fibre and complex carbs. aldi do it, as do lidl and bigger tescos0

My two always take a sandwich / wrap / roll (with salad in it) together with sweet and a savoury snack
Sweet includes
HM cake in various guises
Yogurt
Biscuits
<whisper> bought cakes or chocolate biscuit
fruit / raisins
Savoury might be
sausages / sausage rolls
dairy lea type snacks - i would just give them cheese cubes but they won't eat it
peparami
samosa
onion bhaji
tomatoes / cucumber - if it isn't in the sandwich.
cheese straws are a good idea - might try thoseI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Popcorn would make a change, easy to do your own. Cocktail sausages, spring rolls or indian snacks if they like them. Cheese straws, or cubes.I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Thanks for the ideas everyone.:D
thanks squeaky for the list. I actually typed in savoury snacks and nothing came up!!! or maybe it was just me being a numpty
I'm used to making pack lunches with sandwiches, salads etc so i had loads of inspiration for that side. It was mainly tit bits as my eldest literally has five minutes to grab a quick bite and eats it on the way to class.
Don't know why but i just couldn't think of anything this week to make for them. now ask me back in july and i would have been fine.
I'll definitely make the cheese straw as the boys love them
Right i have a list!
Samosa
cheese straws
muffins (have got fruit ones made)
carrot sticks
calzones
again thanks all0 -

Not a numpty - there's a trick to searching on MSE...
Take a look at our sticky on searching at the top of the board because it can make quite a difference to the results you get.

A really easy, cheap and filling snack I've found to make is scrolls. They are lovely eaten warm and they pack really well in lunches.
All they are is 1 cup SR flour (any coffee mug will do)
& 1 cup yoghurt. Mix by hand adding more flour if sticky. Roll out on a floured surface in the shape of a rectangle.
I usually spread vegemite& grated cheese on top. The roll up and cut into wedges. Place on tray & cook for about 20 minutes in a moderate oven.
You can put pizza toppings if you prefer, but for ease I mainly do the above. This dough can also be used for a quick pizza.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
I found this Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall article from the Guardian on savoury muffins
Guess what I'm doing this morning!
Oh, and taste testing. Will let you know if they pass

Thanks for the above post, I am going to make some now, as have the ingredientsHealthy eating aim per day: 3 fruits, 3 or more vegetables, 3 low-fat dairy portions, 3 starch portions, 2-3 lean protein portions.
Weekly aim: to include 2 portions of fish (one oily), some nuts, seeds, beans and pulses.0 -
What about Cheesejacks? They are in the Cranks cookbook. They work out pretty cheap to make because the main ingredient is porridge oats and you can use any cheese you like, it doesn't have to be anything special. They are filling, portable & my small nephews seem to enjoy them.2025's challenges: 1) To fill our 10 Savings Pots to their healthiest level ever
