Right I am a dab hand at baking all things sweet
but my range of savoury snacks is limited to cheese straws and cheese scones.
Can anyone suggest any savoury snacks that can be made from scratch?
Sometimes I am finding something sweet just won't do........

hmm, I have this problem too!
Nuts and seeds are always a good option, very healthy too! Either eat them plain, or put in the oven for 10mins with a soya sauce/chilli/herb/balsamic vinegar/herb coating (be careful not to burn them!). They will keep a week in the fridge, but beware, they can be a little more-ish!
I often make my own southern fries/potatoe wedges and freeze, then they just need a bit of time in the oven to re-heat. Good for quick dinners instead of a take away, or a snack.
I make my own yoghurt dips, usually onion, garlic and herb, guacamole or some salsa and eat with the wedges/raw carrot etc/tortilla chips as a treat.
You can also make popcorn savoury like the nuts and seeds. And soup is a good one if you are at home or have a thermos. Mini garlic breads can be pretty healthy if you roast the garlic and mix with olive oil, spread onto home made bread/toast. Some cheese on top is tasty too!
Oh, I forgot, I like to make houmous, and chop toasted pitta bread into fingers to dip.

Hi Bitsy,
I would second the homemade hummous and dips idea.
OH likes it when I make him a quiche or some sausage rolls. I do the pastry in the magimix so it doesn't take long, but you could make your own by hand or buy some depending how much time you had. Leftover pastry can be frozen too.
Quiche fillings tend to be things like a bit of fried bacon / veggies and then a mix of eggs and milk to set it. Some cheese on top is always good. You can put whatever you want in them really, and they're good for taking to work in a packed lunch, or to have for tea. I also sometimes make individual ones in yorkshire pudding tins or mini ones in bun tins. A favourite filling for the mini ones is a teaspoon of pesto or chutney, an olive and some cheese.
Another tasty idea is homemade scotch eggs. I'm doing slimmng world so i use Bowyers 5% fat sausages, bu you can use any kind. Hard boil some eggs, wrap them in a thinnish layer of sausage meat, then flour, egg and breadcrumb them. I grease an oven tray then bake them for 30 - 40 mins depending on size.
Enjoy!

Easy one.
Puff pastry with mature cheddar rolled into it ..buttered and cut into strips, twisted and baked until crisp. Cheesy straws
How about:-
Same thing but Marmite in place of cheese and finer slices ..home made Twiglet wannabes
Nice with pickled walnuts.
Some Pataks lime pickle paste tastes vile on it's own ...but mixed in VERY SMALL amounts into minced lamb, chicken or beef it fries up into really nice Kufti Kebabs...just roll into sausage shapes and either grill or barbecue or fry ...serve with Nan bread or salad in a Pitta. Those jars of PAtaks pastes are really good to flavour foods and last forever since you need so little in one go...many flavours too.
All done in about 10 minutes and no effort
IF you can bake sweet things, maybe scones with cheese and sun dried tomatoes instead of the normal additions (seasoned with salt/pepper to make them savoury)...would be easy?
If you make bread, try adding some sauted onion to the dough and toasting a thick slice with goats cheese on it ..I'm told olives or anchovies are nice on this...I hate them so I can't say personally. The breads nice on it's own toasted.
One large potato ...peel it, then attack one side with the peeler making thin slices ..soak in water for a while until the water rinses clear, and deep fry until golden in smallish batches...mix a little salt and paprika and dust the crisps instead of buying them. I do this when I'm making chip and the oil is already hot and store them in a plastic bag but they don't last long.
Tortilla Espanola (spanish omlette) made by slow simmering chopped potatoes in olive oil then pouring out the oil adding beaten eggs and seasoning..then low heat baking and eaten cold in a crusty roll like the Spanish dock workers do for breakfast. That one lasts in the fridge a while and is dirt cheap. You can add ham or bacon or whatever you love before baking if you prefer...baking slowly stops the outside geting rubbery or burnt and ensures it cooks through evenly.
Damn I'm hungry now

One of my favourite savoury snacky things is roasted chickpeas - they come out sort of like dry roasted nuts.
Put some chickpeas (tinned or soaked and precooked) onto a baking sheet. Spray with a little oil and season really well - whatever flavours you like, chilli or spicy season-all both work well.
Roast in the oven until they dry out and go crunchy. Not too long, though or your dentist's bill will go through the roof0 -

Not as much as if you stick to the sweet snacks! How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
cheese scones, mini cheese and onion pasties. Pitta pizzas are always quick and easy maybe more of a meal than a snack though: pitta tomato puree, then cheese and left over chicken, ham whatever you have in oven for 15min or so, you can eat cold too.0

I'm going to try something tonight because I've got some odds and ends to use up (pantry raid!) I've got a bag of instant mash, 3 rashers of bacon and an onion, and I'm going to try and make some bacon hash browns
It shouldn't be too hard to do - make mash, squish together with bacon and finely chopped onion, then fry for a while until golden
Hoping to have them dabbed on kitchen roll served with ketchup or brown sauce
Hope that helps

A favourite of mine is to roll a rasher of streaky bacon around some dairylea and put it on skewers with cocktail sausages and mushrooms.
I also make a pizza and cut it into small fingers
Samosas are easy to make tooBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
