I was going to say Cheese Straws are lovely. I made some for the first time not so long ago. They do look odd and you think, well I did, that its never going to work, but they do.
Make some savory shortcrust.
Roll it out so that its sort of square.
Now just looking at the top half of the square, sprinckle grated cheese over, now a pinch or two of mustard powder and cayanne if you have it.
Now fold over the bottom to the top, like a book
Now slice into strips and twist around.
This is were it starts to look abit odd, as the cheese can fall out and its raw pastry.
Brush with milk
Bake for 20 mins gas mk 6 - my oven0 -
cheese scones, i made a batch yesterday and there ony 4 left now, whoops. very scrummy.
Marmite swirls, roll out puff pastry spread with marmite and grated cheese if you want. roll up like a sauage and cut into pin wheel slices, and bake till golden. i've also done the same but spread tomato ketchup on pastry and grated cheese. very scrummy.
Sausage roll's.
quiches, pizzas all can be made and kept cold in fridge for snacking on.0 -

Love the Marmite swirls and will try your suggestion of tomato ketchup & cheese which also sounds good. Another version I want to try is mixing some Sage & Onion stuffing in with the raw pastry mix to make a kind of herby nibble.0 -
Ooh those marmite swirls sound yummy!
If you're into crackers, I made these for Christmas hampers this years - did the same basic recipe in 3 different flavours (plain, sesame seed and rosemary) and they seemed popular!

the easiest savoury things are cheese crisps! get your oven nice and hot and a baking tray lined with baking paper or parch. now grate some nice mature cheddar and mix it with some finely grated parmegiano. drop about a tablespoon of the mixed cheeses on the tray and bake in the hot oven until they start to brown. take them out and leave to cool. then devour!!!!!!!!!!!!0

Hello everyone.
I was wondering if anyone has any tried and tested savoury baking type recipes?
I love baking sweet things but it all gets eaten very quicky (mostly be me)
With my eldest off school for the hols and always hungary plus 2 little one who would rather pick at things i would prefer them to have something less sweet.

I am going to try cheese, onion and rosemary muffins later this week. I haven't a recipe but will just adapt one of my sweet muffins ones. If they work out will post my recipe on here.MFW 91 op 2014 £410/1000
