Was thinking about this overnight, and if people are going to agree that certain threads whatever they may be HAVE to go to regulars, then could they be ALL automatically have to be posted on the main board FIRST with a heading showing that it is going to be a REGULAR then a link sent to dailies, and then the original thread edited or written either by the OP or a BG so that it is still there, and not removed until GO, but reads something like....' Hi, this thread has been moved to the regular thread, as it will have new answers every day. Please follow this link' so that there is still a link on the main board, people will know an end date, can comp either way and will only have to head to the regs board if they really want to.

I don't know how easy that would be, and I'm sure that would have problems too, but it may help. I know the main board would still remain long, which I think Glad thinks is a bit of a problem, but as long as you comp by 'thread title' or 'thread start time' it doesn't matter how big the board is does it?

I can't find it either, and I posted a merge request on the thread, which has gone from my postings. Sunny Saver's thread (the poster who duplicated) has gone too. :( You can go direct to Argos FB though.

    Hi there

If a thread's been merged with another often usually one of the links will stop working as it no longer applies. Requests for the merge to be made are also sometimes removed so they don't disturb the flow of the original conversation.

PS I don't know why the thread was removed but I'll look into it and if it can be reinstated I'll do that. The Forum Team don't remove a post that doesn't involve abuse lightly though so it's likely there is a good reason.

    Andrea :)

    Hi everyone,

This is a question about this comp:
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2978686

You have to like the facebook page and tell them why you deserve to win an iPad. T&Cs state winner will be picked at random, but what they are really doing is shortlisting ten people every week who then go into the draw. I asked them to explain the difference and they emailed me back saying that they got a much larger response than anticipated so changed the format... they also said 'the line regarding 'randomly choosing' a winner is with regard to the overall winner' and that they will be updating the T&Cs soon... is this allowed? I'm not happy with this change as I entered not knowing my response had to be picked and probably wont be able to think of anything witty enough anyways to be shortlisted :)

Oh yeah, didn't know if I should post this in the comp thread or this one... hope it's okay

I stopped posting all 20+ monthlies ages ago and have dropped Sci-Fi too. I'm dropping WOTV too seeing as all those I spent ages posting on Friday (When actually, I had Real Life work I should have been doing) were removed AGAIN. They were never removed before.... But you know what? It may just take more than that, as I'm effectively going to have to comp from 2 boards now and there simply aren't enough hours in my busy days to both comp and post. I'm sure I'll survive without the "Glory..."

You can't say people post on main board instead of regs for the glory and recognition?!?!?!

I'm sure a few might but most do it to contribute, because they enjoy posting and even in some cases for the karma aspect. People just want the comp seen and as many as poss given the opportunity to win.

I just think when things are actually defined we will actually be able to move forward.

    QUOTE]

But despite repeated requests for clarification and consistency, that's never happened.

I actually find the "Glory" comment pretty offensive and am very grateful that both Korky & Toniq have found the courage to respond here :A.

My life is not that shallow that I crave the "Glory" of posting on here. In fact it is very rich and filled with things I am beginning to neglect as I spend more and more time here (Comping is so addictive!)

The only sensible solution to both these dilemmas seems to be that I stop posting. That way I can bow out of all the friction and focus on stuff that really matters (as part of my sig has remained since I first composed it :D)

I bear no ill will and wish you all well :A.

P.S. Although I made a deliberate decision not to comment on previous posts (which only seemed to be raised once the original row had died down,) may I just state publicly and for the record, that there was never any intended criticism of Diva. She has her own, personal reasons for taking time out and I have always respected that. At least we knew where we stood there.
If other BGs felt I overstepped the mark, I apologise for any hurt caused.

OMG not GrannyBiker leaving as well, there won't be any comps on the main board soon.

I'm sure everyone's aware that I have had issues recently, which were brought to a peek when I searched a comp, only found in GO, posted on main board, was informed it was a regular, by the time I wrote another note, it had been TAKEN from the main board and put in the regulars. The problem was highlighted because, being a regular (which I don't venture to other than posting them a link when I post a daily etc) some weeks were just a note on a different question and therefore would not be picked up on a search, and looking through the thread I had missed all but probably the first link

Personally I think comps should be posted on the main board, link sent to regular board by that person or whoever sees it, and the main thread left until the end date when it would be moved to GO. That way everyone has the opportunity in seeing the comps as they work their particular way through comps, but the regulars also have the thread to work on each day/week/month. Personally I used to trawl the main board and save relevant posts to daily etc myself to my Favorites and never used the regular boards.

I don't think anyone posts for the 'Glory' anymore than say a blood donor does, just in the knowledge that we're putting something back.

I would like to thank everyone that has supported me and thanks for the PM's, which truly I have appreciated.

It is such a shame when we can't support each other in trying to win prizes, we're all here for the same reason 'to win prizes'.

I SHALL NOT post any more comps until the boards have sorted themselves out and remain on main board, with links to regulars, like it used to be. It's such a shame, as I'm getting withdrawals ;)

By the way, I have work, dog to walk, OH, family, I have a life, and want to enjoy it :T

I never normally post here, but I would like to say also that I rarely use the regulars and the recent changes have ruined my system of the main board and personal bookmarks. Like others I have to work etc and now comping takes that much more time. Please let's go back to the way it was.

I can't believe the stalwarts that are leaving because of all this and can only express my sad appreciation for all they have done.

A huge thank you to all who post the comps and deals that make life so much fun!

are there any previous winners from Asda comps? if so are they always this slow in sending the prizes out?
  • ive not yet read further than here, but my thoughts....

    so on to ideas
this is all very basic but.....

if all comps on the main board were single entry with the usual end date format, would that make that board easier to use freeing up a little time to look at a 2nd board
id find that much better as then i wouldnt have to skip out all the multi entry threads ive already entered via the dailies/weekly threads when entering by end date or the odd time ive tried to enter by new posts. its much easier using multilinks to right click and select all threads to open rather than having to pick every other one out as is currently the case when they are posted on main and linked in reg stickies.

if all other comps were posted on the regs board then clicking on 'new topic' each day should list the threads so you could see any new comps posted since you last visited?

compers who search by date - using advanced search you can select both boards to be searched at the same time bringing up all comps ending that date - I know that compers comping by end date would miss out on multiple entries but how did they find these comps on the main board? was it by 'new topic'?

comping by end date i miss them all UNLESS i happen to spot them on the first page before i hit the sort by end date button. the only ones i catch are those linked to in the reg sticky threads... its incredibly frustrating to come across a comp with agreat prize the day before its ended and see that many more well known names around here have thanked it, posted replies daily etc but none have taken the two minutes to pop a link in the reg stickies or explain how to do so to an op who has stated they dont know how to get it added.

I don't know if it's even possible but would having an 'entered button' on every post in a reg thread help?
and would an 'expired' button in there help?
    yes deffinitely!

one user has suggested to me that instead of having 'WEEKLY until ??/??' etc we just use D:, W: and M:
id like the same format as on main with the letters ie E: 31/12 D (or w or m) with 31/12 used as a guess at end date if the end date is unknown and the published end date used if known. so yes to the letters instead of the words.
the most confusing regs thread to me are the ones with a single entry but no end date
ie register for our site/newsletter and be entered into one (or multiple) draws
would it be easier to have a seperate sticky linking to these? to make the other monthlies easier to find
Yes :) with the date added written beside the link to spot new ones easier iyswim

more to follow and thanks if you got this far :D
  • Hi, I haven't read recent posts but here's a thread I've started. Could everyone have a look?

No bias or opinions please - just the different alternative solutions you'd like polled please?

    Thank you!
