Thankyou Di and Southend for the encouragement and advice. I got the incomplete packet of statements, seemingly random figure for PPI payments and the statement that no information was available prior to 2005 in response to a letter asking for that figure, but only found out about the SAR letter and ten pound payment thing yesterday when the Halifax asked me for them following a similar letter to them relating to a Halifax Visa card which was paid off in 2007.

In answer to your question Di, I have never had a permanent job, only agency and casual work, and have been a housewife since 2003 so I am pretty sure that the insurance was never suitable and never made a claim on it even when I was unemployed. In the early days they knew I was a temp and whenever I was between jobs I didn't claim because I knew it would not pay out as my job had not been permanent but I was told by the call centre that I still needed the insurance as it went with the card automatically and was needed in case of illness or death. I believed them - It was distressing that it was useless if I couldn't pay because I had no job through being a casual worker but I at least had the comforting thought that I wouldn't leave a debt if I had a fatal accident!

I'm sure many of you understand that it is the memories of years of debt and insecurity that is causing my unwillingness to carry on with this (and in a way bring it all back again) but I've got a figure in the low hundreds from them already so....

So... on with the claim! In the back of my mind I do think that a total amount paid into the PPI policy must exist somewhere. They have come up with a figure paid in but no information relating to the cancellation of the policy, only the copy card statements from after the date of cancellation, which of course are no help. So if the SAR letter and payment could make them release or calculate it then I'll do it and come back here and tell you what happens.

Sorry Munichjoolz, i thought you had filled in a SAR etc, make sure you do, hey what have you got to loose. The main thing is you are now questioning it - thats good and the Halifax are talking/ requesting it etc, it is these sort of things that make a big impact. We will all help even if it's to cheer you/bright side. Good luck, you are not alone.

    Hi there

I am aware that even if a successful claim have been made for any reason, you can still make a reclaim for other reasons, so for example, they paid out for unemployment-redundancy, and maybe she would not be able to make a claim on a possible pre-med condition.

I would check Martin's link for further information and the guidelines of reclaiming.

For the arrears side of it, I would post about this matter on the debtwannbe thread, you should receive some advice about this query on there, good luck with this.

    Hi and your welcome.

You are correct in stating that you would not be eligible to make a successful claim on the policy, so where-as its worthless to you, and a waste of money, so you do have a good case here anyway.;)
