PPI Reclaiming Discussion part 4

This is what they want you to do. If they frustrate you that much, i am sure wonderful Di will be able to advise you. Possible take info inclusive of any questions you need to send to bank, get them to fax it ( thought and its free). Dont get stressed, it will take a while, use templates to get you going. You don't have to talk to them unless you want to.
Personally i would request the a copy of every individual documentation they have on your case. This is purely to settle your mind with the figures due to your circumstances. If not ask them what your paperwork means. I would also want to know all the details of the Data Transfer failure, was you charged for this etc.
The point is they told you that you had to have PPI. Curious if you were on a tempory / fixed term as you worked for an agency, would the PPI of covered you if you were?
It has been a long time, i am sure Di will be reading your notes soon, don't worry
QUOTE=Munichjoolz;34555969]Hi everyone, I'm new here and at the beginning of the process and am wondering already whether this claim is going to be worth pursuing as I'm already a bit confused...
In 1998, young and stupid, I took out a storecard with GE Capital (now Santander). I was an agency temp at the time and as I signed up for it with a shop assistant, alongside a purchase, I did not get any advice re; the PPI.
Between jobs and with money worries in 2001 I asked if it could be cancelled but was told that it was compulsory and I didn't disbelieve them. On that occasion I wrote saying I couldn't pay and so had the interest removed for several months, which helped, but not the PPI. I still have the storecard but cancelled the PPI when a booklet was sent to me saying it was possible to do so in, I think, 2005.
Two weeks ago I realised I might have a case but had no paperwork so I wrote to Santander requesting it. Today I received a very incomplete set of copy statements dating back to 2005 only (explained as a data transfer failure) and a letter which stated that the missing months would be considered in any refund offer that might be made. The letter then stated that the total amount of PPI paid is 211.47gbp. I do not know how this figure was arrived at or what dates it covers, as the statements sent do not show anywhere near this amount (which seems to be about 2 years worth of payments) and the amount actually paid over the term of the policy (8 years) must have been much higher as I carried a balance of several hundred pounds throughout this time at a rate of 1.50 per 100 owed.
I am now thinking I should ask for a copy of the original agreement and wondering if it is true that a record of the total amount paid into the policy was not kept on it's cancellation 5 years ago.
I'm seriously thinking of giving up at the first hurdle here as I know this is an old one and the claim will be for a relatively small sum. any advice on which way to jump?

Hi and welcome
I think by having as much info as possible on this account would be a good help.
When you received the statements, was this because you requested a Subject access Request known as a SAR, where you enclose the payment of £10 cheque or postal order, and they must supply all they still hold on your account. They have 40 calendar days to comply.
SAR letter template here;

That's if you have not done this, but I would otherwise continue to make a reclaim.
You were obviously young and vulnerable and its possible the ppi would not have fully protected you either with the circumstances of being temp working for an agency.
So try to get as much info as you can on this account, you could even give them a call and ask them to provide you with a full calculation of what have been paid into date from when you first taken this out to the last payment.
Complete the reclaiming FOS questionnaire/this is instead of a letter, complete and save a copy, they have 8 weeks in full to give a decision.
The questionnaire you will find on link below - further down the page as stage one of reclaiming.

Follow these guidelines on the link - you won't go wrong.
And post by recorded delivery for your proof of posting.
So yes go for it, keep at them if you have to, good luck and please keep us posted, cheers.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Hi Trish
Personally I would wait to hear from them, as they have not ignored your letters/reclaim, and have requested for more time, this seems to be the norm due to lots of these complaints they are dealing with, and of course they have given a timescale as well, however I would say if you have not heard nothing by the timescale given then chase them up.;) Good luck.:)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Barclaycard are definatly behind, they are not lying to you. We have spoken to them and Barclays, also had this confirmed by a friend. Good luck, atleast they responded to you very quickly compared with most i have spoken to.0 -
