surely all MSE'rs use http://www.tunechecker.com/ before buying any music anyway ;)
tunechecker is more expensive in this case for top 40 or even many others.

for example http://www.hmvdigital.com/track/the-wanted/all-time-low/1?src=ss on hmv is 40p for number 1 song on tunecheckers top40 song but the same song on tune checker is 79p which is double the cost.

iPhone

Funky gadget - www.dropbox.com - you download to your pc and your phone and it will sync your photo's amongst other things. One drawback to the iPhone is you can't easily transfer pics to your iPhone - bit of a design flaw if you ask me :) But this gadget lets you and you can then use them as wallpapers too or icons for people when they call etc. also means if you set it up to back up stuff on the iPhone you're less dependent on it should you need to change computers and *shudder* sync to a new iTunes library :)
or you could use google picassa or flicker as online library for saving and not worry about erasing stuff off your device as you can always get it back from your online storage or have a backup copy on another software other than itunes on your computer.

UK National Rail Train Departures
Live Train Departure Boards. If you use trains, then you need this.
search?q=pname:com.ktbm.nationalrail
also http://htcapps.com/london-tube-status-for-htc-free/

National Rail
Not Free unlike the app above, but for sure worth the money i am told. Looks better and a few more options.
search?q=pname:com.croworc.nationalrail
although i have another free app called train times uk and have a widget on one of my home screens that shows my fav stations train departure times, always available at the click of a button. useful for being in time for the next train and not waste money on taxis.

if you want to watch tv in bed and dont have a bedroom tv then try ... beebPlayer
Plays BBC iPlayer TV programmes, live TV channels and live radio
search?q=pname:uk.co.johnsto.android.beebplayer

now the above is not available on the market but available elsewhere if you look.

otherwise there is another alternative called myplayer. but watch the data usage on both the above apps. i dont feel the need for a bedroom tv now! plus when the other half is hogging the tv i can watch topgear etc on my mobile.

why pay for ringtones when you can make your own. Ringdroid
Allows you to create ringtones and sms notifications from any mp3s on your phone, quality app.
search?q=pname:com.ringdroid

or on htc phones like the desire, htc has a similar feature preinstalled.

if google goggles does not work for photos of books or cds then try SnapTell
Snap a picture of the cover of any book, DVD, CD, or video game and within seconds get links to Amazon, Google, YouTube, Wikipedia, IMDb, eBay and more. For those times a barcode isn't available.
search?q=pname:com.snaptell.mobile.client.android

Key Ring: scan your loyalty and other membership cards. Then use this app instead of carrying a bunch of membership cards around.

Calltrack to keep track of my calls (logs to my google calendar)

PayPal
by PayPal Mobile search?q=pname:com.paypal.android.p2pmobile

i have included some QR codes for people who know to use the qr codes for easy downloading of the apps using either google goggles or barcode scanner (from xzing ) for scanning the QR codes to get the apps directly.

you can earn money by just using your mobile and giving mobile usage pattern statistics to nielson and earn money / vouchers upto 50£ a year http://androidbloke.co.uk/2010/06/30/earn-money-with-your-android-phone-and-nielsen/

please note anyone who downloaded the Nielson app which gives you money upto 50£ a year for feeding them info about phone usage pattern for their worldwide analysis of phone usage.

i have now deleted the neilson app which allows you to earn money for providing usage patern of phone data. the app itself is badly designed and although slightly more than 1mb in size initially, after a little more than a month of use its data had swelled to a bit more than 40mb and it stores it on internal memory only and no way to transfer to sd card even with froyo update and was taking up 1/3 of available memory on my htc desire so deleted it. good idea but but lousily designed software by a worldwide leader in market statistics so uninstalled as i prefer more internal memory than money for feedback!

please uninstall if you like me prefer more internal memory on your desire instead of feedback money!

apologies for any hassles inadvertantly caused by me.

the 40p single is on there and the HMV deal is feature on the RH side
http://www.tunechecker.com/top-40-singles
it only brings up the 79p one if you look up a specific version :)

I have a solitaire from mobilityware it was free, not anything special. Just search the app store for solitaire and see which free one has the prettiest picture was my method :p

Alarm clock can be found on the clock icon, when you open it along the bottom you should have world clock, alarm, stopwatch and timer

To delete an app on the phone press the icon for a few seconds and all the icons start to vibrate on the screen, the ones you have bought will have an X on them just tap them to delete. You can also re-arrange you icons while they are vibrating by dragging them where ever, if you drop one on top of another it will create a folder for them, if you drag it to the edge it will move to the next screen (that took my a good few try before it worked for me)

once you have everything where you want it just press the one and only button on the front to return to normal functionality.

You can also delete apps in iTunes and then sync your phone to make the changes.

If you get stuck feel free to PM me or try youtube I haven't looked but I'll bet there thousands of "how to..."s on there :)

hmm, you should have the clock icon, I went to check iphone 4 had it ;)

Have you tried switching it off and on again? :rotfl:

there are free alarm clock apps but most of them require you to leave your phone unlocked as far as I know, something I can't risk with a techno savvy brood.
