this is my 1st post so please bear with me, i was wondering if someone could help me, my husband lost his job a yr ago and have been claiming jsa since, we meet all criteria for a home access grant, my son is eligible for free school meals but never had them until 2-3 wks ago, i originally sent my application form off with all the documentation i needed (my husbands jsa award letter, my tax credits awards notice and my child benefit letter, i have received a letter back today telling me my application is unsuccesful, i phoned and spoke to them and they have told me the they have based my income on the tax yr 08-09 when my husband was working and bringing home £30,000 a yr thus taking me over the maximum income of £16.040 meaning i am not eligible, i find this most confusing as my husband has not worked since mar 09 and now that i am eligible for a free laptop!!!!!
i hope this isnt to confusing and would greatly appreciate any help or feedback please0 -

Hi Keypeg
I'll explain what has happened to me, which may help you.
I was made redundant at the beginning of Feb 10, I am claiming income based job seekers, no school meals (Son hates them).
I applied a month ago and have been accepted for the full grant, I to have earnt just under £30k this tax year and last year.
The only difference is that my wife doesn't work as i have always supported her and before all you jumped up members want to comment on me receiving benefits. I have been working non stop for over 13 years and fully intend to go back as soon as a Job appears (My occupation is a very specialised area, so there is not a lot about at the moment).
I would give them another call and query their decision.0 -
So anyone who is on working tax credits but is on less than £10k doesnt qualify?Wishing you all good luck!

Sorry if this has been asked and I think I already know the answer but will ask anyway. If I go to Comet's website, must I only select the packages under the home access page? or can I go to the PC and laptop section and select a laptop within my grant's budget.
I don't want to sound ungrateful but the laptops under the home access section are seriously overpriced (if I were buying with my own money) I found many laptops that are 3 times more powerful on Comet's site for the same price.0 -
Yeah Comet only do one, and it is advised to stay away from it.
Plenty of other sellers to help

In my opinion, the Toshiba L450 is the best laptop out of the bunch, mainly due to it's ATI 3200 graphics chip. All choices are horrid but it's free and will help my sister with school work.0

I wouldn't worry yet, I think the amount of applications they have had is probably causing the delay! From what I have read, they are well above target (how many they expected to have received by now). Hopefully it should come through soon.
Good Luck!0 -

you may need to send a more recent tax credit award letter , i had to send a child benefit letter , we also get JSA if you get a new tax cred award letter for 09-10 it should go through straight away , if there is no one working in the home and you have kids in that age group you should qualify ... i think 1st april are when the new tax cred award letters are due so if they still say no once your new letter comes through it will show hes unemployed and what he earned o9/10 and u should then qualify0 -
