oap As 18866 give you the cost per minute before each call, we will know immediately if call charges went up. I don't believe they would increase connection charges without notification - or would they ??
PS. Anyone able to help with my previous post regarding 2 telephone lines ??"0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -

I did try to help with your post about two telephone lines, reply number 267!
Basically, get broadband then cancel one of your lines0 -
I have recently been canvassed by NTL who are offering an alternative scheme for non cable customers that links in with you using them as an ISP. For a fixed £15 a month they offer £15 worth of calls at a of 3p,2p,1p but also unlimited internet access (http://freedom.ntl.com). Clearly they benefit from the fixed income and that the contract is for 12 months, but are there any other catches?? ???"0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0

You can make any type of call and it is set against the "free" £15 allowance. (e.g. 0870, 0845, mobiles, international, rude ladies on premium lines etc.)0

I'll second that about ntl, their customer services are secont to................ everyone. I've been with them for a number of years, I cancelled my tv package, and spent the next 4 months trying to stop them sending me bills for money I diddnt owe, threatening me with solicitors letters, the lot. This was only stopped by contacting offcom, they stopped in 2 weeks. Thankyou offcome. I would like to leave ntl and find a better home service provider for my landline telephone. Has anyone got any suggestions please. When you have been with ntl for a while they dont want to know you as far as any deals are concerned
Good Luck

well i am totally confused by everything... i no that everyone has there own opinion, but my situation is that i have just had my phone bill in at £168 for the last three months, i am on BT option 3, so althou they offer free calls day or night 7 days a week (for upto 60 mins, then redial), we are paying thru the nose for mobile calls, now my and my husband both use the phone from home for business calls, so mobile are used from time to tome ( more than often).
i also have AOL broadband which is £25 a month so thats an extra £75 a quarter.... quite a bit expensive if you ask me...
i have just had a email off AOL aksing me to sign for another 12 months and get a Free one night stay in a hotel somewere.... (seems so little for such a long time), so i no that my broadband is up for re-newal, what is the best option for me to do...0 -

Phone 150 and tell BT you want to go onto BT Together Option 1 – that’ll reduce your payments to BT to £10.50 per month (if you pay by DD) or £11.50 (if you don’t) and will be just for the line rental. Only ever make calls to 0845 or 0870 numbers on BT in future (if you can't find a geographical alternative on SayNoTo0870.com, that is).
Sign up for call1899.co.uk and use that prefix for all your calls to mobiles (10p/minute during the week and 2p/minute at weekends).
Sign up for call18866.co.uk and use that for all calls to UK ‘01’ & ‘02’ numbers – 1p connection and 0p per minute.
You could also sign up for TalkTalk Talk1+ and get free evening and weekend calls for a year but, with such calls costing (on 18866) only 1p each, the saving is quite small unless you make thousands of calls.
There are plenty of broadband offers cheaper than AOL – it might be worthwhile trying to get them to price match (better still, beat) Wanadoo (£17.99/month).30 years, 217 days!0 -
THANK YOU THANK YOU SARG>>>> plain english thats what i like... thanks so much for that... just off to pay the phone bill now and will change it too option 1 while i on the phone... and i will go onto the other ones too..
cheers mate
god I love this site so much..... mwr0 -
I have had 2 charming girls call at the house to sell me a very attractive package fom One Tel. For 10.99 per month I can have all standard local and national calls at any time free, plus only pay just over 2p per minute to mobiles.
I spend £37 per month at present for UK calls mostly to Smart talk and a few to BT, and about 25% to mobiles.
Must be good don't you think, or too good perhaps. No connection charges0 -

I have a feeling you may have misunderstood what the 'two charming girls' told you about the cost of calls to mobiles. On OneTel's TotalUKTalk package, which is the one which costs £10.99 per month, calls to mobiles cost between 3.5p and 20.45p per minute depending on network and time/day. I cannot see anything lower than 3.5p to call any mobile on their rates list.
Never mind, you have plenty of time to read up on this site what'll be BETTER for you before you're committed.
In summary, the latest 'best buy' for people with BT landlines appears to be:
(1). Dial 150 and tell BT you want to change to BT Together Option 1. That'll reduce your costs with BT to just landline rental (£10.50/month if pay by DD or £11.50/month if pay any other way).
(2). Before the end of February, sign up for Carrier PreSelect [CPS] on either# TalkTalk's Talk1+ package and OneTel's LeisureUKTalk package - they appear to be offering the best 'freebies' this month - and enjoy, for NO MONTHLY FEE, free evening and weekend calls to UK 01 & 02 numbers for a year.
(3). Sign up for call18866.co.uk and use the 18866 prefix for all your daytime calls to UK 01 and 02 numbers (1p connection and 0p per minute).
(4). Sign up for call1899.co.uk and use the 1899 prefix for all your calls to UK mobiles (10p/minute during the week and 2p/minute at the weekend).
(5). If you have to make calls to 0845 or 0870 numbers and can't find an alternative geographical number on SayNoTo0870.com, make them on BT (dial a 1280 prefix if you opt for one of the Carrier PreSelect services above).
# There are also signing up/referral 'bonuses' to be considered with these but, ignoring those, both offer the same 'free evening and weekend calls to UK 01/02 numbers' for a year.
