Can anyone suggest a splitting point for this journey?
It usually travels through london onto London Kings Cross, but can go via reading via birmingham. A splitting point for the Durham - Kings Cross would probably be the most useful place.
Thanks!!!!
If you are going to travel via Reading, you will have to use splitting... there is no through ticket via Reading. Try split at Birmingham or Leamington Spa.
Having said that, this is a difficult question to answer... there are too many unknowns.
Peak? OffPeak? or SuperOffPeak?
Advance tickets a possibility?
Family Railcard?
Number of travellers (Groupsave a possibility)?
A particular splitting point may or may not be good for some of those variables.
Don't suppose that helps much. :rolleyes:0 -
Peterborough must be a favourite.

Well usually its just one traveller, YP railcard and more often than not i know long in advance when im going to travel so buy advance singles, just wondered if it might be cheaper to split them up. Ill have a look at peterborough. Do you think it would be best to do Egham - Kings Cross then KC - peterborough -durham?0 -

Given that there are advance singles from Egham to Peterborough which cost less than the included tube fare more than similar tickets from Kings Cross to Peterborough, I'd say no, don't split in London.
But if there are through advance singles from Egham to Durham then it's 90% certain that splitting won't help.
Splitting starts off as a question of trial and error - if you travel a route often you'll soon get to know what (if anything) works.
Peterborough and York are the obvious ones to try on your route0 -
I tried Twickenham to Exeter St Davids with net rail card return and best price was £64,it stops at Reading.
Twick to Read £12.10 single but unsure what one i pick for return?
Off-peak Day ReturnAnytime Day Return
If you are going on Friday and coming back Sunday - neither, they are day returns. £14 something for an off peak period return or singles each way if travelling at peak times.
And doing it for silly money means not travelling on peak days like Fridays and Sundays - midweek can be cheaper, and even if it's not, more advance tickets available.0 -
Can anyone who has done the Chester to Glasgow trip give me any advice as to wheres best to split my ticket? I'm not travelling until feb 18th 2010, returning feb 20th, so know there will probably be cheaper tickets available 12 weeks in advance. Just incase I miss out on these, is it best to split my tickets at warrington bank quay or crewe where I have to change trains, or another station(s) on route?0

Yes, warrington bank quay or crewe can be used for splits ticketing, also a good split for Chester to Glasgow is Manchester Pic, can take a bit longer but Transpennie have some good advance deals on trains direct from Manchester to Glasgow that don't sell out as quick as the Virgin west coast advance ticketsWhoa! You are way too early for tickets next April.
You have no chance of finding cheap tickets before twelve weeks before travel.
You could try predicting what your ticket price might be by looking now at fares for say November. But there is usually a fares increase in January each year.0 -

Don't take the 12 weeks too literally - it is rare for it to be exactly 12 weeks, it's often several weeks later. At weekends it can be later still if engineering works affect your route
The thing is not to panic at 12 weeks and buy full fare tickets as that's all that's available - you can buy those on the day at the same price if the worst comes to the worst.0
