ASHP Gas meter removal and standing charge
Hello, we have recently had an Air source heat pump fitted and now have no need for gas at our property. We had the gas engineer come out to cap the gas supply and remove the meter. Our energy provider says we still need to pay the standing charge (for gas) even though we do not use gas? Is this correct?

Turn Off Heat Pump at night?
We have had our oil boiler replaced with a heat pump six months ago. It just heats the existing 7 radiators. I'm reasonably pleased with its performance even when the temperature drops below zero. However, our electricity usage has almost trebled in those coldest months. The Heat Pump runs 24/24. I used to set a timer to…

Octopus Heat Pumps
Currently have gas central heating and hot water cylinder. Boiler is fairly efficient and works well, but is 16 years old. 4-bed detatched, reasonably well insulated house and about 6000kWh per annum gas usage. Considering replacing with heat pump and have contacted Octopus for a quote. They currently instal Daikin. Has…

ASHP Legislation
Hi, is there any legislation regarding the installation of ASHPs that specify the distance from the front of the unit to the boundary fence? We have been told ours is too close to the fence and that it should be at least 1 metre from the boundary fence. Is this correct, and if so, what is the legislation and how do we find…

ASHP - Terraced house
So whilst you can't plonk one outside the house fairly easily, say you've got a cellar in said terraced house Could the ASHP go in the cellar instead? Would the COP also be slightly "better" in such a situation too given it isn't actually exposed to the outside temperature but rather the internal temperature of the house?

Gas smart meter removal
Presently investigating the possibility of a Heat Pump, one thing springs to mind, I presume someone would need to remove my gas smart meter, not sure if it can be taken out FOC or is there a charge for removing? Don't want to get lumbered with a standing charge if I decide to go down the route of getting a Heat pump…

Help, need advice for ashp
Hello we have built a new house (no choice, last one falling down) and it's airtight and highly insulated. We were supposed to put an ashp in but we have run out of money and don't get a grant. Also have heard a lot of horror stories about crazy electric bills. So plan is to plumb it for an ashp but put on for a few years…

ASHP for Water only + Electric Radiators (FTB Purchse)
Hello! FTB here and surveying options. There are quite a few new build (2023) 1 bed flats nearby that use ASHP - but only to heat the hot water (this done via a "vent brick?). I am aware that the property has EPC of B (and there is varying opinions on the accuracy of these). The EPC says the estimated costs are approx £800…

Concerned over ASHP noise for sensitive ears
I have reactive tinnitus and hyperacusis and a new 60 home housing estate is being built, nearest house will be approx 35 metres away from my house. All 60 houses will be built with air source heat pumps due to the new government rules. I am terrified I am going to have a low frequency hum cutting through my ears,…

Heat meter - Fun & games
Been thinking about fitting a heat meter for a while so that I can get an accurate picture of just how much energy is pumped in to the central heating system here. With hard data in front of me, it will be much easier to select a suitably rated heat pump when the time comes without any guess work. Having looked at the…

Heat Pumps and "Microbore" pipes
Would like to pick the collective brains about Heat Pumps and a 25+ year old central heating system that uses 10mm "microbore" pipes. I have 250m of this piping and 19 steel radiators in my wet system along with a 300L HW tank. The system is in good condition, works perfectly and keeps my well insulated (as well insulated…

New home, solar and ASHP, or new boiler?
As title, moving in 5 weeks and the boiler needs replacing. Looking at Solar and battery, with an ASHP but will this do our hot water as well? Would you just replace the GCH, add solar, or solar + ASHP? This is a long term home so happy to invest for the long term. TIA

£2000 grant Barclays Greener Home Reward
I've posted this before in the green and ethical forum but is worth mentioning as the scheme looks to have been extended again without a deadline: https://www.barclays.co.uk/mortgages/greener-home-reward/ £2000 for a heatpump for Barclays mortgage customers. Or lower amounts for solar or other green improvements. Other…

101 Intro to Heat Pumps & running costs - help required
Hi, Had a survey for a heat pump via Octopus last week and have just received the response. I'm scheduled to have a call with the sales advisor a little later. In anticipation I'm looking for a little help in trying to work out the likely running costs, so I've got a better idea if this is all worthwhile or not, so any…

Interesting heat pump installs and resource links
Perhaps after viewing some of these the myths of older, badly insulated houses and heat pumps can be put to bed, or at least give home owners a better idea of what they can do with terrace/bungalows etc that have low EPC ratings. I particularly like Glyns installs https://youtu.be/Hyv_vQEvHgo?si=QaCq2H6FoNmwE-V-…
