HI ALL
hope you all had a lovely christmas! For the most part so did I!
I posted last year upset that OH had bought me a fake pearl necklace. got flamed for it too!
Yes, I should be grateful for gifts etc I know! its just that I hate fake pearls or any fake gems really and would rather have a small item of the REAL thing than a lot of the fake stuff. and I dont usually wear necklaces either and prefer pendant styles when I do.
I wore his last years christmas gift on christmas day then put it away - and kept remarking this year on how I liked pendants and would really prefer stud earrings as I have lost quite a few of them lately.
and what does he give me this year??????? yep - another fake pearl necklace similar in design to last years!!! grrrrrrr
he asked a couple of weeks ago what I really wanted for christmas and I told him a food processor - I even took him into currys' to show him the one I wanted!
LOL - when he handed my pressie over I thought ' he didnt get a food processor in there!
next year I am going to ask him for TWO fake pearl necklaces (I have four granddaughters and they can have them) then threaten to cut off his priviledges if he EVER buys me another one!
I dont care if anyone thinks I am ungrateful - I was very specific about what I wanted this year - and before anyone thinks it was too expensive for him - I know exactly how much is in his account and the tight git could have bought me a designer kitchen - never mind a measly processor!
if youve got this far - thanks for reading! I feel better now with that off my chest!

Oh dear. I don't remember last years thread. Is he usually 'dippy'? Or does he get caught up in buy a pressie on xmas eve and doesn't think?
My Dad did something similar to my mum. year 1 she got gold ear-rings, year 2 she got gold ear-rings similar to yr 1 when she got another similar set in yr 3, she showed him all 3 pairs and asked him not to buy them again. He got the message.0 -
I understand where you're coming from, totally. I don't like "fake" anything and would rather have nothing (yes really) than something that was fake. Although with jewellery I really am into plastic tat
purely because I'm so clumsy and any sort of good jewellery I've had, I've managed to snap or break or something.
I'd feel the same though if I was bought a fake designer handbag/shoes or something, I'd rather just have a normal pair of nice shoes, than an imitation. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
My Mums suggestion (after 4 years of the same inappropriate thing)
Monday - Beans on Toast
Tuesday - Beans on Toast
Wednesday - Beans on Toast
Thursday - Beans on Toast and a gift wrapped bottle of lovely perfume for her!!!
Think he got the message - his presents were spot on every year since
MGFINALLY AND OFFICIALLY DEBT FREESmall Emergency Fund £500 / £500
Pay off all Debts £10,000 / £10,000
Grown Up Emergency Fund £6000 / £6000 :j

My OH got caught a couple of weeks ago buying me a toaster for Christmas. I told him if he ever bought me a kitchen appliance for Christmas again, I'd leave him.
The result was that he sent it back and bought me some lovely presents for which I am very greatful. Sometimes you have to spell it plainly out for men. They don't always get hints."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Oh, dear ! I'd rather have had a small pair of silver earrings than the hand made bracelet + earrings (not my colours either ) from my cousin ! Never mind tho' , I thanked her nicely ! It's a bit of a shame when you put thought into what to get for others + then feel disappointed that not much thought has gone into your gift . Maybe you'll be able to get the food processor in the sale at a bargain price , I hope so .0

from a distant relative...or even a closer one, or a friend, I'd always be grateful to be remembered and not mind so much about what the gift was , but from a lifepartner for whom things have ben spelled out and affordable I think I'd feel very hurt too.
In fact, I am really difficult to buy for and my closest friends know the best thing to get me is nothing. I'd rather people spent the money on petrol coming to visit me or on themselves.0 -

thats the plan Scrapaholic - with the £50 my mum gave me for christmas - then I can return the cardi she bought me which is two sizes too small!!!
tbh - if he had MADE me the ruddy necklace I would have been pleased! at least I would know that some thought and effort went into the gift!
I strongly suspect he picked it up in the local market when he went to buy flowers for his mums grave. (no, he didnt get me any at the same time either).:rotfl:0 -
One year off my ex husband i had a deep fat fryer !!! , the following year we were trying for a baby (never happened by the way) and he bought me a bloody car seat, the following year he bought me a foot spa (i hate soaking my feet, cant stand the vibrations makes me feel sick, as I suffer with motion sickness) !!!
He never did get the message he is now an ex of many years dont want to imagine what his new wife gets now !!
Make £200 by end of January... £20.42/£200
Grocery Challenge £200 pm Jan £0/£200
January no spend days - 1/310 -

tbh I sort of understand him not getting me a food processor - even though I went to some lengths to make him aware that it was what I wanted! you see, one year I was expecting him to get me a hairdryer (desperately needed and we were broke), and the silly git gave me an electric knife! I burst into tears and asked him how the eff I was going to dry my hair with it!!! he remembers that to this day! cos I didnt usually swear at him in front of the kids!
(by the way - that was over twenty years ago and the electric knife is still going strong and in fact was used yesterday to cut up pork and beef)!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
edit - more than twenty years as it was the christmas he was on strike so 1982/3!0
