I`d tell him you are not keen on the necklaces and that in future you`d rather he not buy you them.
Have you said you hate them?

We dont buy for each other for the main reason being i`m fussy and ungrateful :) Stops all the grrr`s and sighs!

  • Ok... I'll swap you the pearl necklace for the huge bundle of cat themed things I get from my friend every year and have done for the last five years !
Cat stool, cat calendar, cat notebook, cat note lets, cat key-ring.....People say it's the thought that counts but when you know people no longer put thought into presents it seems such a waste of money.

I would rather have some splendid quality paste (no, that's not a contradiction in terms), than a microscopic real diamond. After all, on this occasion it is the look of the thing. If it's for investment pruposes, then jewellery is a dead loss anyway.

Meritaten, you are getting off light. :D One year, my son bought me men's hair clippers. He thought it would make it easier for when I cut his hair. :rotfl:

It's the only time I never gritted my teeth and thanked him. :D

Middle one asked me what I wanted this year. 'Binoculars' I replied. 'I can't buy them, that's not a xmas present. I'll get you something out of Boots'.

Thanks, said I.....I'll get you a nice pink skirt out of Markies. He got the point and I got my binoculars. :D

I can't believe that after years of marriage and 'wrong' presents people don't go shopping together, with a set price in mind for each other. We always did this and always got just what we wanted. The extra little surprise present on the day itself was nice to get, even if it was chocolates (which the children ate) or flowers (always acceptable anyway as I love flowers in the house).

I'm afraid with most men hints don't work, the majority develop a strange, male version of attention deficiency disorder pre- birthday/Christmas and must be led by the hand - and wallet -during this time! :D

My DH is really very good usually at getting presents. This year we done wish lists and I really wanted a decent bag and a purse, I spent ages looking for them and putting the ones I liked on my wish list, he still spent 2 days himself looking for a bag LOL.

I suggested that he ask my Mum to get me a purse and show her what ones i liked but she wouldn't as she thinks it is a personal thing and people can be funny when it comes to purses (which I suppose is right in a way) so she suggested that she get me shelves for the living room instead!!!!! DH quickly put that thought out of her head LOL and yesterday I opened my pressie from my DH and received a really lovely bag and as for the purse........I got a really nice and cute Little Miss Naughty wallet!!!!:rotfl::rotfl:oh well I'm sure my DD will like it LMAO!

  • After receiving a foot spa from OH years ago I took matters into my own hands and now shop for myself, present him with a bill during December and let him wrap it all up! My OH is extremely generous but sometimes a little misguided, for example I've been cutting down on the sweets and booze lately- lost 10lbs in the process- but he must have spent £20  on sweets and booze for me (to go with the goodies I chose :D) where I'd have been happy with a book! Bless.

OH actually should know a bit about this. When I first moved in I asked him "what's with all the clowns?" as he had about 8 dreadful Leonardo clowns in his front room. It turned out that a relative bought him one for Christmas one year, OH dutifully thanked said relative, then received another seven over the following years! He hated them all along...

    HI ALL
hope you all had a lovely christmas! For the most part so did I!

I posted last year upset that OH had bought me a fake pearl necklace. got flamed for it too!
Yes, I should be grateful for gifts etc I know! its just that I hate fake pearls or any fake gems really and would rather have a small item of the REAL thing than a lot of the fake stuff. and I dont usually wear necklaces either and prefer pendant styles when I do.

I wore his last years christmas gift on christmas day then put it away - and kept remarking this year on how I liked pendants and would really prefer stud earrings as I have lost quite a few of them lately.

and what does he give me this year??????? yep - another fake pearl necklace similar in design to last years!!! grrrrrrr

he asked a couple of weeks ago what I really wanted for christmas and I told him a food processor - I even took him into currys' to show him the one I wanted!

LOL - when he handed my pressie over I thought ' he didnt get a food processor in there!

next year I am going to ask him for TWO fake pearl necklaces (I have four granddaughters and they can have them) then threaten to cut off his priviledges if he EVER buys me another one!

I dont care if anyone thinks I am ungrateful - I was very specific about what I wanted this year - and before anyone thinks it was too expensive for him - I know exactly how much is in his account and the tight git could have bought me a designer kitchen - never mind a measly processor!

if youve got this far - thanks for reading! I feel better now with that off my chest!

My GF last year asked for a pearl necklace, after that she said I'm too kinky for her and ended it :o

I'm a terrible person to buy presents for as I'm not really into clothes, jewelry, perfume etc etc, don't listen to music, don't eat chocolates, buy any domestic appliance I need and my chief interests are gardening and textiles, neither of which OH knows anything about., So I make sure my Amazon wish list is up to date and if I want pieces of equipment for a hobby, I send him links as to where to buy them. Then he buys what he likes the look of from this short list and I get a bit of a surprise. I've got some very satisfactory presents this way.

When you have enough necklaces, you could tie them all up together to make a christmas tree decoration! :p
