Thanks @Malc. I need to work out my dates for when i can start to switch but i know it will be in Feb, i'm guessing around mid Feb i can start to switch. Is the 49 days calendar days or just work days (mon-fri)?

    Thanks

    Kev

Morning Kev and that's calendar days.

The Price Protection window is open 49 calendar days before a fixed tariff ends until 20 working days after. Provided suppliers are told, customers can stay on the cheaper prices whilst a switch goes through. Also, exit fees don't apply whilst in this window.

Hope this helps Kev. Please let me know if you need any more information.

Hello John_the_Boy and the email you've received refers to a tariff with different T&Cs to those I've spoken about previously.

This tariff makes agreeing to smart meters a condition of the tariff.

This is different to earlier versions where customers only needed to agree to be contacted about smart meters.

    Hope this explains John_the_Boy.

I have been with eon 1 month now and just got my expected text message, asking me to name a day and time to have my agreed smets2 meter installed.
Of course this is not true as i only agreed to be contacted as in the T&CS. I will reply or just ignore as i dont want one fitted.

Hello SeeMe and from past posts I believe you're on a Fix Online or Fix Online Exclusive tariff which was available during November/December last year.

If this is right, you'll have agreed only to be contacted about smart meters. As you don't want these meters please ignore the contact you've received. You only need to respond if you want the meters installing.

    Hope this explains SeeMe.

A question from Malc regarding fitting of Smart Meters to residential properties with three phase meter.
I am located in east Hertfordshire (SG12 8NJ) and have a bungalow supplied by a three phase supply. This is historical as there is a workshop in my garden served with a three phase supply.
The three phase supply enters my external meter box from where a single phase passes to an adjacent meter box with separate single phase meter supplying the house.

I therefore have two meters one three phase measuring usage in the workshop and the second a single phase meter recording usage in the residential dwelling. this means I have two separate accounts and two standing charges.

I would dearly love to rationalise to one account with a smart meter on the three phase supply that measures usage not only on the workshop but also the bungalow.

My question therefore is:- Are energy suppliers fitting smart meters to three phase supplies? If so does that include domestic dwellings or is it only on commercial contracts. Over the last few years I have tried several times with different suppliers to get a three phase smart meter but to date have been unsuccessful.

Thanks SeeMe. I thought it was.

As above, please ignore the contact unless you decide to go for smart meters.

Hello Fozzie Bear and thanks for your question.

I don't know the answer so I've sent this to our smart meter specialists. I'll let you know what they say as soon as they come back to me.

Hello Fozzie Bear and I have an answer to your question about three phase supplies.

At the moment, we're not fitting smart meters to three phase supplies for residential customers. We're still at the testing stage and are looking to start trialling this towards the back end of 2020.

Thanks for your patience Fozzie Bear.

Thanks Malc for taking the time to get a definitive answer. This appears to be the same with all other suppliers and I cant get a definitive answer from the DCC as they wont talk to end users only the energy companies.

    Malc,

I was disappointed - shocked, in fact - to receive two texts earlier from EON about smart meters.

One said "As part of your energy tariff you agreed to have smart meters fitted"; the other said similar.

Now that is basically just not true - as you confirmed to me at the time.

It's a disgrace that facts should be misrepresented like that. Perhaps you could feed that back up the line.

    Cheers
Hello David_e and many thanks for switching to us.

With Fix Online Exclusive v11, you've only agreed to be contacted about smart meters. These meters are optional and you can turn down our offers to fit them whilst staying on the tariff. The relevant T&C is section 11.1 which says the following.

With this tariff you agree to be contacted during the tariff term for the installation of a smart meter.

Earlier in the year we had products on sale that did require smart meters fitting as part of the tariff terms. We've since changed this policy for later Fix Online tariffs and introduced the term above. This is what you've agreed to.

Regrettably, the messaging hasn't caught up with the tariff term change. As you don't want smart meters, please ignore the email you've received. You only need to contact us if you change your mind and decide to go for smart meters.

I'm sorry you've received an email with the wrong information and that our advisor didn't sort this when you spoke to them. To be clear, smart meters aren't mandatory on Fix Online Exclusive v11.

Hope this explains David_e. Please let me know if you've any further concerns as happy to help.
