Try Insure & Go. i have just paid for a policy so I am familiar with their medical questions. You only have to declare heart related conditions if you have received treatment in the past 2 years or if you have had a hospital referral in the past year. You would have to declare the blood pressure treatment as it is current.

You could perhaps tell them that the blood pressure treatment is only due to the heart attack which is more than 2 years ago.

We have found OK to Travel to be reasonable with premiums for pre-existing conditions, and easy to complete much of the screening information online. However we have not had cause to claim so (fortunately) I am unable to comment on how good they are when it comes to paying out.

We found them through All Clear Insurance a comparison site for pre existing medical conditions.

I have also been recommended to Insurance With and have a note to try them for a quote next time we go away.

This travelling with medical conditions is a nightmare. On paper I look like I should be dead - lol! I have several fairly major conditions including Diabetes, have had several spine operations and have another operation coming up soon. The vast majority of 'specialist' insurers wouldn't touch me, mainly because of the impending surgery. I did eventually come across Good To Go Travel Insurance who quoted me £428 for the week to Bermuda, which although astronomical I was at least relieved that I could still travel. I almost went ahead and booked it but thankfully came across a company called CIGNA Travel Insurance. They have been around for a while and have great write ups. I ran all of my conditions through their system and for unlimited medical and repatriation cover I've ended up paying £272.00 for my weeks trip. Chuffed or what?! Definitely worth a look if you are travelling longhaul and struggling to find a policy that will cover you. Fingers crossed I don't need any medical attention while away.

I had been in a joint policy with my wife for annual cover with no pre-existing conditions. In October of last year I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and so took out a separate annual insurance policy for myself and declared high bp as a pre-existing condition. I have since read on another forum that this was the wrong thing to do as I would still have been covered under my previous joint policy as the statement I made (no pre-existing condition) was valid at the time.

I have since been diagnosed with prostate cancer is it necessary for me to inform the insurance company or can I wait until the renewal date?

Almost certainly (depending on the wording of your particular policy) you'll need to declare this before booking or taking another overseas trip.

However, as the policy is already in existence any cancellation charges incurred as a result of a refusal to provide you with cover should be refunded as the policy is already in existence.

Hope you get the medical issues resolved satisfactorily.

I am over 65 with medical conditions - non of which are an issue when it comes to travelling. I was not able to get insurance from most of the recommended insurers on your site. The only one who would insure me wanted £160 for a 4 day trip to Switzerland. I was able to get a yearly policy through Age UK for less.

Nationwide who previously wouldn't insure me offered to cover me for bladder cancer for just £156 for 2 of us worldwide. I can't understand why they would suddenly do this as I still have it, maybe someone educated them. Breast cancer which I had 6 years ago no longer comes into it either, wippeee!

The following is a quote from the guide, good advice you would think, but is it always the case.

"It is never a good idea to wait to the last minute when you are buying travel insurance but this is even more important if you have pre-existing conditions because it may take a bit longer to get it sorted".

    Consider the following:-
Cruise holiday for December 2016 booked deposit paid £857.00, insurance quotes start at £1000.00 as we are travelling as a couple and both have multiple medical conditions. This is surely a bad investment better to wait until full payment is due, could even be cheaper!

Could be dearer, of course - or unobtainable. And at least purchased now it would cover the deposit. Have to say, though, that faced with that sort of premium I'd be staying in the UK.

I have booked a 10 day holiday to Spain. I took out Thomson's holiday insurance. It is with AXA. I booked it on the 4th of April and since then have been diagnosed with cancer.
Well I paid my Doctor £25 for a medical report and have sent it off.
Now I have a sneaking suspicion I will be refused.
If I do I will take the advice of the Ombudsman.
Thanks for all your comments it is very interesting.
