Do you mean the injury is inside his ear, so through his ear drum or on his actual ear and the head where it attaches to his ear (I hope you know what I mean )

Could he have had something in his hand, a toy car or pen/pencil?

There was no other children around apparently and he had nothing on his clothing or anything that could do an injury like that. I have taken photos of the injuries. I asked me son if he could tell me what happened and he couldn't. I took him in the nursery and showed him the area where it happened hoping he could show me but he didn't he just sat there lol x

His injury is actually on his ear and it went through his outside of his ear if you get what I mean. They have said that he had nothing around him or in his hands. So this is why I am puzzled to what has actually happened

I think the op means it is outside the head and is just something has punctured the "pinner" and then imprinted against the skin behind it?

I don't get the impression it has pierced the "head / skull itself"?

My son split his chin open at nursery, it happens.

I did it twice myself when i was a kid and two of my neighbours also have similar scars.

I'd put it down to accidents happen unless other parents are also experiencing odd injuries to their kids.

Oh dear, how worrying! I hope there wasn't something in the toy box that's been swiftly moved!!!

The reason I asked was because my son has a perforated ear drum at the moment after someone slapped him on the ear and it caused a suction iykwim and wondered if it was the same, but obviously not x

I would honestly ask them to look at the dressing up box to check if a hanger, fairy wing etc isn't the culprit.

You said that there was a plastic plate in the box? Your son is only little - I wonder if his head hit the raised edge of the plate very hard, even if it wasn't sharp, the pressure might have been enough to cut his ear, which must be quite soft at that age?

You be amazed what can happen when they just wacky themselves. My 2 year old had head on collision with my 4 year old - dad in charge. He managed to spilt skin open with just forced of impact on blunt object .

It's horrible when your child injures themselves but sometimes injuries can look so bad that you can't believe that they were caused how they were. My DD broke her arm at school. It was at a 90 degree angle to itself. When we got to the hospital, they were questioning her about how high she was when she fell and what she was climbing on. She fell from the floor (over her feet would you believe!) to the floor but injured herself so badly she needed an operation.

Firstly hope your son is OK - sounds like he is from your story

When you say what are your rights, what do you mean exactly? If you don't believe the nursery (on what basis?) I assume you will be removing him and finding another one.
The nursery will have a set procedure to follow when accidents happen and they should also have set procedures for parents if they believe their child isn't being cared for correctly.
Saying all that accidents do happen, especially with kids being kids (todays compensation culture tries to tell you otherwise of course)
