    Hi everyone

Sorry to hear of your pots trouble Rising my cc bill is due soon and has all my DIY spends on it that were less to do with misjudging budgets and more to do with ignoring the budget concept. I'm using my rounding down pot to clear these extras and that has made a serious dent in that "spare money" fund.

Re: B & c after loads of quotes and messing about I got my home insurance for £235. I was quite pleased with this and even better provided it tracks ok I should get £30 cashback. This is for b with ad and c with ad and personal possessions away from home as I tend to go belt and braces on insurance.

Re: site problems I seem to find it intermittent, some days fine, others frustratingly slow and hiccupy.

Finally got round to ringing dog trainer - met her in October, was going to wait till after Xmas to ring her and it has taken me till now. Think it will be good for the dog to learn new things. She is very bright when she wants to be and I'm sure gets bored with me sometimes. Not sure the trainer will be impressed to learn her only talents are sit, roll over (she won't do just lie down!) and twirl (pirouette in a circle on her back feet). Oh well.

Rising I seem to be getting a lot of reports of them doing this with people... messing about so long then asking for another payslip. Well I have the payslip now, Just have to wait until payday on Monday and try and find somewhere I can print it off (library I hope!)

Ref C&B double is a LOT!!! Mine seems steep, but some companies have me as a flood risk (because a villiage 10 miles away flooded) which is bonkers! DH and I spoke about it, and what with the move and everything we can't afford to pay it in full, so we will pay the £25 a year charge and pay monthly (because it's still £12 a month cheaper) and next year we plan to pay in full, and then save monthly towards keeping it that way...

SOT that's a great offer... mine is £253 (if I pay in full) and isn't belt and braces. I don't think I have half the extra's like accidental... And I used Martin's Guide to get me a good deal...

    How do I get cashback?

Although according to the provider they are giving me free content insurance and i'm just paying Building Insurance, and they are not THAT much cheaper either...

Noooooo ..... don't for one minute think any one of is will believe that the adorable Eliza is being a wee monkey!:D

    House insurance

Renewal came through today .... £228 (up from £190) which is a bit disappointing - however, having just been quoted £435:eek: by another insurer I'm a bit relieved IYKWIM:o

There will be £200 in the pot by the end of May (when I'll have to pay the cc bill it'll be put on) so a bit of a shortfall :(but the good thing about the combined house & car pot means there will be enough to cover it (nothing due on car until next Jan) and I'll be able to make up the shortfall reasonably quickly.

I had hoped to be able to drop the monthly pot payment to £20 (currently £25 to try to get enough by renewal) but I'll just leave it the same (pay back car fund & cover any increase for next year).:)

  • PS ....... didn't notice a huge difference in the payslip with the new NI contributions ..... a MASSIVE £8.

I know it's changing again next year but ....

Rising, You are right, Eliza is so amazingly easy... She's sleeping right now (can't get easier then that)

Now DS... since he was told about the housemove... he's being a huge pain in the a$$ right now!

Still Love him to pieces though :D

Ref. Insurance I am so pleased your renewal quote wasn't that bad. But before you pay, tell them you got a quote for £205 and if they can beat it you'll go with them and pay in full!! Always works :)

I know the NI change didn't make much difference here either... they blow it out of proportion really!

Anyone know where the Mortgage Free Wannabe Thread is?? DH and I are already planning our overpayments...

They've extended the mortgage to 32.5 years, I have this amazing spreadsheet (I got from an accountant friend) which shows that with a lot of cutting back and hard work we can get it down to 30 years by the time our fixed rate ends :D

So planning ahead I need to become a Mortgage Free Wannabe :D

    EDIT: Found it :)

    I *thinik* it's more a board, rather than one thread ..... http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=98

I've glanced in briefly a couple of times - seems to be lots of individual diaries etc (like the DF diaries board) but there must be a "general" thread somewhere ......

I may join you at some point  once I get the hang of budgeting:o.

Just re-done my SOA (new landline / broadband deals etc) and I do still have a surplus :j but it's not huge by any accounts.

If I can manage to get sorted (ie all payments up set up to annual ones) that should make a huge difference - as currently having to still put away around £50/month extra than I should need to IYKWIM and this is obviously out of my monthly surplus so .... not a lot left atm!:o

I've been lurking on MFW for a while but I'm nowhere near disciplined enough to commit to it yet.

I think I want to move closer to work in a couple of years but need to pay a big off the mortgage first so I can get a decent LTV on a new house so I really do need to get my act together.

I have been worrying about home insurance cos does seem to be a cracking deal , thought maybe I'd done something wrong on the quote but papers arrived today and I've checked it through and all looks spot on.

    Cashback is through Quidco.

Just done a couple of quotes through there and ...... one came out only £1 less than my current policy - despite having 3 months free!

Another was nearly £100 less but with much more limited cover (and don't really want to go down that route) .... although the cashback would be handy .... mmmm

So .... my current one is starting to look more attractive!:)
