Just a question..... how much do you all pay for gas and electric what sort of direct debits should I be accounting for when I move out to my own place. Just a general idea of what you pay monthly if so and how large your property is. :)

Glad to hear the savings are going well :)

I pay £64/month (total for both) in a 3 bed semi (Scotland so quite cold!).

I am careful with my usage but don't sit and freeze IYKWIM - it's pretty much bang on - I have about a £30 deficit just now but only moved supplier in November so it's been over the colder months and should easily balance by the years' up. HTH:)

Happy birthday JG also sorry it's late!

Hi Samtoby I pay £80 at the moment, I'm not sure of the split and £5 of that is "debt" because they messed up setting up my direct debit then recalculated my payment when it was set up. That is for a three storey 3 bed semi in Greater Manchester. I have it a bit warmer than I could probably manage but am quite strict about turning off the lights etc (but do end up running the tumble drier every couple of weeks)

Happy birthday JG! hope the move happens soon and the stress of the estate agent etc will be all worth it! ;)

samtoby - £11k pay rise OMG thats fantastic!! fingers crossed!! :j Gas and Electricity - I pay £52 gas and £33 electricity, 3 bedroom detatched house. Also in Bonnie Scotland so its a bit nippy!! Rising - £64?? mmm maybe I should be switching?! :D

Thanks for the suggestions about the £2k. Already got a holiday planned, just a caravan with my folks (and they are paying) but looking forward to it, so no need for another!

I have come up with a 'practical' plan but also something that is more of a want than a need - which I think fits the bill. :D

One of the things that was neglected whilst in debt was the decor of the House (which was fine by me at the time!). So we have decided to put the money into doing that, our room in particular hasn't been touched since we moved in!! We were hoping to do the babys room anyway and this way it gets done no problem! I'm so excited and a wee bit nervous about "freely" spending money!!

Have a good MSE weekend everyone!

Hi Samtoby this weekend I am popping a third coat of paint on a couple of the hall walls. Only a couple though so shouldn't take long.

This is my last week of freedom before my next OU modules start so it needs to be a tidy and clean and sort weekend so I'm on top of everything and have minimised distractions.

First though I need a really good nights sleep if possible as I am sooooooo tired after the busy last weekend and work is manic too so my batteries need recharging!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes :)

SamToby I'm moving to a small villiage close to Basingstoke (about 45 miles away from here!) At the moment I pay £75 a month for Gas and Electric for a 2 bed maisonette.

Don't forget you TV Licence (£12.50) Phone Line Rental (£12.50), Broadband(£10), Council Tax (My new place is a 3 bed end Terrace and £123, but you can find out online what the banding costs are in your area... I think modist houses are normally band C or D), Home Content and Buildings Insurance (I've been quoted £35), Water (£45 not on a meter... I hope this goes down when I move as that's on a meter) and then if you buy you need Life Insurance too.

If you want an idea of fees for getting a mortgage so you don't get a shock like I did then just ask :)

This weekend we have a Church Fair today and tomorrow we have church followed by dinner at a friends :)

Yesterday we went to the Laywers office and started the process of getting a will drawn up... I feel like such an adult!!!

Eliza and I are both sick with a cold at the moment :(

Oh but Eliza did giggle for the first time yesterday, DS made ger do it over and over again :D
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!
