I think I vote for a *not too extravagant* holiday too. You don't have to spend a fortune to make some wonderful memories but a change of scenery can be very refreshing :D

Been busy this weekend, two coats of paint on the whole hall, stairs, landing, stairs, landing. It could still do with a third in some places, particularly where the light from the front door shines up the wall, but we were all shattered so I am going to *hopefully* get it done next weekend before the next OU course starts.

I didn't spend a fortune feeding my family, but did spend more than usual. 3 small portions of Beef Bourgignon left and 1, maybe 2 at a stretch of the chicken casserole, and lots of veg and potatoes left, so I've frozen some and eaten a portion tonight, and have got a meal plan set up to use up the rest, and some other frozen bits for variety, without going to the supermarket for as long as possible.

Hope you are all well & happy.

Last night we audited the freezer and all other food stocks... I have two weeks of meal plans using what we have... the food needed for the two weeks is at £50 (normally I budget £50 a week... so £50 left to restock once we move!)

We got bad news yesterday (but not terrible)... The Mortgage underwriter said we cannot afford our mortgage and extended the term to 32.5 years!! Dropping our payments by £95 a month... so we will be overpaying it by £110 a month!! This means the Mortgage payments will be £35 a month more then I was due to pay here on renewal... this is a two bed maisonette... I'm moving to a 3 bed house! Thing is the rent on a 3 bed house is £200 a month more then my current rent, which we could afford and were going to do, but after life insurance and buildings insurance we have only £110 left so it'll be an overpayment now...

At least we got a morgage, subject to proof of rent payments for the last 3 months :)
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

Glad mortgage etc is moving on. At least you are allowed to overpay, that way the extended term itself doesn't matter, but you also have the potential to free up a little extra cash if needed by not overpaying in a month if needed.

Keeping fingers crossed all continues smoothly.

    Hi all
I've come to realise just how littlea person actually needs. Its very liberating. Thought I's share.

Spot on oldtractor. There is a HUGE difference between what someone really truly needs, what they really could do with, what they want and what they just think they want.

I'm trying hard to completely cut out the "think I wants", reasonably successfully, by having a pin board where I write up things I think I want and date them, then I wait a couple of weeks (ish) and think about it again to see if I still want it, and if I still really do, can I get it within my budget. Excluding decorating and gardening stuff this seems to be working for most other extra wants and I am definitely deciding against more, when before I'd have been straight on 8mazon and ordered it.

I allow myself quite a bit more than real needs but I accept this means it will take a bit longer to get rid of the mortgage, but also means I've got further to reduce if things get tighter, eg food costs increasing or petro again.

Completely agree with you OldTractor... it's amazing how little you actually need to be happy in this world compared to what we think we need :)

I agree SOT, it could be a good thing a longer term. I just need to wait for the Mortgage Survey next week to find out if they will actually give me a mortgage! I never thought this was stressful until now... but the waiting is getting to me...!

Today is my Birthday, I've had such a great day. I was woken with Breakfast in bed (Tea and Toast). My family got me 4 cook books (HB Mum knows best and mum still knows best, Grandma's recipes (2) and Baking book (from the great british bake off)). DS made me a £30 voucher towards a meal out (I am going half with him near his birthday for a joint celebration).

My MIL and my Mum (and the Taxman) bought me a new (first) sewing machine, and I got a 'grow your own' peppers from my SIL. Tomorrow we are having a Chinese from my favourate place with compliments of my Gran :)

I've had a good day, and i've ignored everything to do with the housebuy... and i'm just focusing on housework instead :)

SamToby Good luck with the job, I wish you all the best x

Yes we are moving soon, as we have bought a house and just working our way through Solicitors and Morgages... Such a headache! Are you really sure you want to travel down this road?? Very stressful! It's the Estate Agents who are the worst...
