Lea/Rising and here is me who transferred my savings to a new bank and just moved £4k in one hit!!!
Rising well done on closing your pots, it's a big step
Li/ Rising Like you, I am terrible with cash, if I have it I spend it… I’m much more impulsive with it! If I use my card it has to be in a budget, if not I worry I won’t pay it off in full, and that fear stops me buying. However, if someone gives me £20 and it NEEDS to go in the bank to pay for something specific, I have been known to spend it on a take-away instead!! I am getting better, because I have charitys hop monies in my purse and I only use it to pay for charity shop finds, but I keep a spending diary to ensure I stay on track and don't impulse spend
SOT I sympathise ref. Freezer… I have to empty my HUGE chest freezer ready for the move (its 1m x 0.5m x 1.5m - 292ltrs or 10.3 cubic feet - and full!!!!) and I am dreading it!!! Unlike you I don’t find it boring to use it up though… you see if its on my mealplan I’ll eat it… Friday being treat night with HM Pizza, fish and chips or gousions to make it a nice reward for being good. My problem is I normally have a 4 week mealplan (ok mostly 8 weeks), with associated shopping lists… for the foreseeable future I will be auditing my cupboards/freezer and making a meal plan once a week to help use up what I have!!!! It scares me, what if I can’t be bothered to audit and just buy take-out instead (like the old days)!!! Can you hear me panicing???
I just can’t believe my freezer is full actually… the main compartment was empty when Eliza was born!!!!
Ref. decorating, I have a friend who is spending more then she has doing up her house because she wants it all done… immediately!! When we move we have decided to save up and then tackle one thing at a time, first being DS Bedroom, then mine… the whole house needs painting, new curtains, lightshades, curtain poles, curtains… but I’m planning on lots of Charity shop buys and doing it all slowly so not to hit the savings!! It'll take months for the basics, and longer for some things (like glossing the doors)!
Yesterday I had good news, I got my life and Critical Illness covers sorted under budget (my weight loss made this to much easier then last time… my insurance was just accepted!). My building and content cover is quoted higher then I would like (is £35 a month a lot for both??)
Unfortunately the movers quoted £160 more then we expected…which is a lot of money to move, but I think we might pay it...
And I can’t find cleaners who are interested in a deep clean of the flat (I know movers and cleaners are a cop out… but I hate moving and as it’s the last time I will until I retire why not ease my stress now, especially with a 3 month old)
I still have to call the school and see about getting DS into the good oneWe spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
Hi all.
As suspected, the insurance company won't be paying out as we cannot prove my dd left the car secured.
Leaving me significantly out of pocket and also liable for the police recovery and storage costs.
In the circumstances I can only be thankful that he didn't hit anybody else.
This is not shaping up to be a very good year
Hope you are all well.

How awful BIB, sorry to hear that.
Might be worth a letter at least, if there is no obvious entry damage they may well stand their ground, but worth a try?
Hope everyone has a good weekend, I think it is going to be hard work here as there are lots and lots of walls to be painted to do the whole hall way.
Happy 3 months to Eliza, doesn't time fly!
SOT xDebt Free since Nov 11 (ish) (except the £118000 mortgage) as at Jan 2013 but still hanging around DFW as I need to Stay On Track.

So the FIL has had a successful PPI reclaim, which is fantastic news in itself, but even better he wants to give us some as it was a decent reclaim, nearly £20k!! :j
No one (except my DM) knew that we were ever in debt and so they always just thought I was “sensible / good with money”. :rotfl:
I’m sure they thought I was just a tight git but that was their kind way of saying it!! :rotfl:
So the rules of FIL giving us some money are that we spend it and I am not my usual “sensible with money”.
This sounds like fun but I feel a bit  about it!
Off to think sensibly about it and then figure out a way to sound like its not sensible – if you see what I mean?!
what would you spend it on? (think it will be about £2k)

Ohhhhhh Li that's fantastic news
mmmmm well, there's loads of things I would spend it on- probably towards the degree would be the sensible option (dull!) but, for me, it would be a holiday as not been away anywhere for over 10 years now  (odd night in a B&B but that's it .....)

Li I vote for a holiday... but a sensbile one
£2k would rent you a nice cabin for a week and give you enough 'spending' money to not have to dip into your own pocket... You might be able to stretch to two weeks...We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like.
