What a way to spend a day off- I must be mad:o
Anyway, after much playing around, I have reduced my pots - not quite to one as I felt that would be too much of a big change as I'm still getting used to budgeting properly (and have had big problems with raiding in the past when large sums are in one account:o) - so have "played safe".
However, I now have 4 pots rather than 8:- House & Car (for annual expenses) - House Ins, Landline advance rental, Car (incl Ins), Emergency fund
- Pets - Dog & cats
- Others - Dentist, Hair, Clothes, Presents, Groceries, Fuel, Anything else
- Savings - renamed one of the redundant ones to this to put my weekly round-down into, don't want to stop doing it but don't want it to just disappear into another account IYKWIM - once it gets to a reasonable amount, I will transfer to the Fuel or Groceries budget (which are both £0 just now:o)
Thank you all as I'd NEVER have had the confidence to combine these before :T:T:T
I also have 3 spreadsheets with a totals page and separate worksheets for each individual budget in that pot:D (don't need one for the round-down one) - phew! my brain's wondering what's going on as I'm supposed to be on hols:rotfl:
Now, enough budgeting malarky for today - trying to resist the temptation of visiting PAH and putting a dent in the dog's budget
Hope you're all enjoying your weekend

Great going Rising! Seems like a thoroughly sensible way to spend at least part of a day off, but hopefully you have stepped away from the spreadsheet and are now making the most of your time off!
I've been decorating today. I was struck by a desire to paint the "feature" kitchen wall, was a peachy colour that I had never really liked and I stumbled across a full pot of "Bali Pale" green paint in the garage whilst digging in the mess for some polyfilla. Sadly it looked rotten - I mean absolutely vile, slightly aqua and somehow totally wrong for the location! So today I have been and bought a different, more limey green and thrown it on the wall and I am really pleased with it
Now I have to get on and fill the holes that the dog dug in the corners of the hallway when she was younger, so I can sand and prime them tomorrow and clean up properly the day after, as I have roped my parents in to an "exciting" long weekend at my house next week where as soon as they walk through the door I intend to hand them both a paint pad and a pot of paint so we can re-decorate the hall, stairs, landing, stairs, landing (3 storey house so loads of it) :rotfl:
Happy Easter weekend everyone

I keep mine in an old 35mm film canister. I knew I kept it all those years for a reason!
I'm not sure how far we will get with the decorating, but I've got them here for about 3.5 days and we are a determined (stubborn!) bunch so I hope to get quite a bit done before they go.

Hi all. Hope you are having a better Easter Day than me. Very, very un-MSE indeed:(
I was woken up at 4am this morning by two police officers at the door. Seems someone had stolen my car from my drive, driven it about a mile and crashed it at high speed into a ditch. It's a total write-off, but the bad news doesn't end there.
Eldest daughter had gone out to the car with the spare key to get her 'phone charger or something. She'd left the key in the driver door pocket and didn't lock the car either.
Just got to wait now and see what the insurance company say, but I don't think it's going to be positive news.
Just walked round to the crash site and it's a scene of total devastation. Goodness knows what speed he was doing, but none-the-less I am thankful that nobody was injured. The police reckon he was drunk (and perhaps worse).
So that's my tale of woe for today.
Hope you are having a better day!
On the plus side - friends have rallied round. My children's Easter Eggs were hidden in the car, so a friend popped round with eggs for them and one for me! Another friend has made soup and lasagne which she is bringing round tomorrow.
Going to look at a wee run around tomorrow in the meantime, but what a PITA!!

backinbusiness. You are more charitable than me, I would have preferred to have seen a cold dead corpse in the wreckage!
There again I might be a bit bitter after having one car stolen and never recovered and another car stolen twice and recovered each time - once from outside the house overnight.
I really do hope you get good news from the insurance company.Proud to have dealt with my debts, became debt free on 03/11/2011. Repaid £54,723.41 LBM May 2006.

Ohhhhhh BiB that's terrible news ........ and you are more charitable than me too!
Hope the insurance company "plays ball" but unfortunately if the key was in it- will keep my fingers crossed.
There was a spate of house break-ins around here and my neighbour had her spare car key in the garage (which wasn't locked) ..... and you've guessed it. A work colleague had their house broken into & the keys taken from downstairs & the car stolen from the drive - and they never heard a thing.
I've had one of mine trashed before - someone tried to nick it but was an idiot as it had an immobiliser so wasn't going anywhere so they wreaked it instead:mad:
I'm with Mort - personally I think they should have all their belongings (everything - clothes, electrical stuff, furniture) taken off them, put in a big pile and lit in front of them.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Mort and Rising - you did make me smile. I don't really think of myself as a particularly charitable person, but I do kind of think that what goes around comes around . . .
The absolute worst part (and this will make you laugh) is that although I really loved that car - my little piece of independance, what I loved most about it was the little MSE Money For Nothing sticker on the back windscreen!!
That was ripped in two, covered in ground glass, and stuck to the pavement - and THAT'S what very nearly made me cry!
Off to await the local constabulary - they were going to report back tonight at 9pm when they came back on shift.
