    Hi Rising

If you know the worst of it is cash flow due to the late refund then personally I'd do some pot shuffling for the time being, then shuffle it back when the refund turns up, though I know exactly what you mean about not wanting to wipe out hard won budget balances.

  • Thanks SOT - yup, that's exactly it ...... it's been a long hard slog with a lot of overpaying to pots to try to get them up and running and just HATE the thought of wiping them out & being back to square 1.

Am going to try to have a very frugal month to catch up as much as I can - food stocks are pretty good so will try to "eat out the freezer / cupboards" month as much as poss.

I do still have the OD on the account (really as a "just in case of disaster option") and the first £300 is interest free ..... I guess worst case would be to wipe out the new car insurance pot (arrggghhh) - trying to pay for all annual things monthly & put away for renewal is really hard on a tight budget! (maybe it's more realistic to tackle one each year?).

However, I have still really overspent so will be off to study the cc bill & spreadsheet to see what I've spent it on that I didn't need.

5 HOURS on the phone and I am getting there:

TV Licence (I am paid up until October, so I need to call in a few days and set up a new DD)
Sky (They said I can pay double next month as I am under the threashold limit, i'm to call in the next few days to set up a new DD)
Gas & Electric (They said to call in a few days when the DD bounces and sort it out... but I am in credit)
T-Mobile (DH paid, Mine DD set up to go out as normal)
Pet Insurance (Only loose insurance after 3 reminder letters, so I am to call in a few days and set up new DD and pay outstanding balance)
Rent (New Standing order created - waiting on confirmation)
Council Tax (New DD set up, I have to pay double in June)
Home Insurance (New DD set up, I have to pay a payment late once set up then normal in June)
Southern Water (New DD set up, payment will go out as normal)
Life Insurance (New DD set up, payment will go out as normal)

I think my Gas and Electric and Council tax are the two I am still a little worried about... but everyone knows about what has happened (inc. my letting agency) so I am getting there!

Complaints are lodged with both banks, because each made mistake which led to this... and people wonder why no one moves banks!!!

Rising I would Rob Peter to pay Paul until your refund comes in and then you can top them all up again...

SamToby I am so sorry to hear your news, I've been made redundant twice in the last few years and it's extreemly worrying and stressful... but I can honestly say that both times have benefited my life, and had a positive effect in the long run (apart from to my finances). Just try not to hit your savings and you can start saving again once you have a new job and it'll only be a small delay x

Samtoby - that's rotten news; so sorry to hear this (((hugs))).

Rising - I feel your pain!

Not posted for a while through a mixture of being thoroughly fed up, and being frustrated with the slowness of the site.

As you know I had my car stolen on Easter Sunday. Insurance wouldn't pay out as there was a spare key hidden in it. I had been looking at a very nice VW Polo previously, but decided that I couldn't justify the spend; however circumstances intervened.

I now have a very nice black metallic VW Polo, and am asset rich, but cash poor.

I like to have a certain amount in my emergency fund, but obviously the purchase of a new car very nearly wiped this all out.

Life is a scunner sometimes, but focusing on the positive, no-one was injured when the thief wrote my old car off. He also got remanded which is what he wanted. My eldest dd is only 3yrs younger than this lad - so sad that life has got to this state by this stage.

Cut back a little to try and recover the losses as quickly as possible. Prob means we won't get abroad in October as I'd hoped, but you can't have it all. I am so proud to be able to fund a new (to me) car out of savings. That means a lot to me.

Some of us had a rough January on this thread - and for some the year just isn't shaping up as we'd hoped.

    Let's hope it gets better!

Take care all - a glorious, sunny 18 degrees in the Highlands today - not something you see every day!

Hi BiB sorry site still giving you so much frustration. Even though it is a pain that need new car at all, yay to having the savings to get yourself motoring again, though not so yay to nearly wiping out the emergency fund. As you say, it could have been soooooo much worse though.

SamToby so sorry to hear about your job, hugs.

JG glad bills are getting sorted - what a pain though! Re: Home Insurance discussion the other week, I think your quote was with the company I have gone with. It had problems tracking properly so I had to submit a cashback follow up, for which I needed my quote number - starts QH - luckily I found the piece of paper I jotted it on as I don't think they would be able to sort it without it, so if you do try for cashback make sure you keep that QH number good and safe just in case.

  • Sam so sorry to hear your job news (((hugs)))

Julie OMG I'm exhausted just reading about your marathon phone saga ... pants to banks!

BiB glad you've got a new car & whoop, whoop to being able to pay for it out of savings :T:T

Well a bit of an odd day for me ...... good news & bad news .....

    Good news
I have great news in that I've finally found a new 4-legged companion:D - she's wonderful (black lab, 5 years old) - she will be getting her own "forum name" so give me a couple of days to come up with something (atm "monkey" springs to mind:rotfl:)

    Bad news
I missed several calls from my cc company yesterday (was in some terrible reception areas when collecting her) and they finally got hold of me this morning ......

My card's been (not sure what you term it - cloned?) as someone's tried to make lots of purchases from it.

Lots of high value transactions on it - thankfully most have been declined but one has gone through which they are now "investigating" - I can say a big :T to them tho' as they're really on the ball and have picked it up quickly.

I have no idea how anyone's got the details as I'm really careful when I use it (both in person and online), however I have read negative reports about the new "contactless" technology (which all my cards now have :() and people being able to walk past and pinch the card details with a reader machine.

Bad news is that my card is cancelled :( and it'll be around 7-10 days before the new one arrives:eek: - not great when your "system" of staying in control is putting everything on the cc & paying in full at the month end.

So ..... cash flow problem is now even worse as I have to find the extra to pay last month's bill and money to cover expenditure over the next week or so .

I am thinking I will have to move a chunk out of one of my pots to my current account & use my debit card  to pay for things and then pay the pot back at the end of the month.
