Unprovoked assault in Tescos, No CCTV, No Security, No help at all

There is some form of criminal compensation award that you can get, I believe that it's if you do not know your attacker etc - an ex-collegue of mine got aprox £1k for a broken nose, not sure if there has to be a successful prosecution though.
I'd be onto the store formally requesting a copy of the video tapes from the day under the dpa. Also speak to the cops who are dealing with it about compensation.0 -
Are you seriously suggesting that staff in this store, either acting alone or in a group, destroyed vital evidence of a serious criminal attack, or alternatively told barefaced lies to the police about the existence of such evidence, as some kind of retribution for the fact that the OP availed himself of free goods under the store's advertised policy nearly two years ago?
Don't you think that's a conspiracy theory too far?
Whew, I'm glad someone put that into perspective, as there I was about to put my tin hat on :rotfl:
I'd also have to say that the store is about 200 miles away from where I live and any Tesco store ive even visited in the last five years!DONE: Great North Run 09! Raised £452 for the National Autistic Society

The officer did briefly speak to me about compensation, he said I could put an application in but its not guaranteed I'll get any, nevermind what my actual dentist bill will be. I'll have a look into the other one failing claiming it off the guy they've now caught.DONE: Great North Run 09! Raised £452 for the National Autistic Society

Received a call tonight to say that they've managed to track the guy down and have made an arrest. And he's admitted everything so hopefully with any luck I'll manage to get it sorted soon.
Still not happy with Tesco though.
I'd be interested to know why he chose you, whether it was because you were in the 'wrong' queue at the 'wrong' time or what?0 -

Actually it wasn't me that came up with that theory, but having seen some r&r'ers in action, including one incident where the police were called, I would agree that they would not be forgotten by staff.
If someone abused your goodwill on repeated occasions, how willing would you be to help them?Gone ... or have I?0 -

:rotfl: R&R had nothing to do with goodwill... it was purely a business decision... far cheaper to pay someone off with a small bribe than have them running off to Trading Standards.
Come on, Tesco and goodwill in the same sentence - do me a favour. They're a ruthless corporate machine.
Anyway, regardless of the moral rights and wrongs of R&R, this issue isn't about "helping someone", it's about a legal obligation upon every citizen to hand over any evidence they may have to the police in the interests of justice.
Which brings me back to my original question: are you seriously suggesting that staff would willfully pervert the course of justice by destroying vital evidence of a serious assault, or by lying to the police about the existence of this evidence, because of a pathetic little grudge going back nearly two years?0 -
These ruthless corporate machines have an unwritten policy, which, when a member of the public writes in to request copies of the cctv recordings, does the following: lets the letter sit in the in-tray for 28 days, then writes back to you to tell you that the cctv footage has been recorded over, together with returning your £10 fee. They are advised to do this by their top brass. It's cost effective.Legal obligations?.That's what legal departments get round.
If they didn't ,the cost of professionally erasing all the rest of the facial images from the recording of anyone but themselves would be added onto our shopping bill, multiplied by thousands for any interested party who wants this information for a tenner. While the company legally can send the recording out, they are not allowed to send out recorded images of anyone else.
All Tesco supermarkets have CCTV.
Anyway, the perpetrator has been caught and confessed of his own free will.Hopefully the attacker may be directed to pay you some compensation, which I hope you manage to get, otherwise as said originally just fill in the cica form and wait,it could take a while (they will subtract any compensation awarded by a court usually)
Hopefully the OP will eventually find out what happened regarding the store and let us know..0 -
Hi Sean Parkin, sorry to read about your assault. Hope you are recovering.
I used to work for the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board. I believe it is called C.I.C.A now as it is an agency. One thing I will say is you do not need a lawyer to claim as they will take 10% of any compensation. You only have to complete a form which is straightforward and as long as the incident was reported to the police and you received medical treatment at the hospital or doctors, you will meet criteria for compensation, however, if you have a criminal record, compensation will be reduced accordingly.
The person who attacked you does not have to be found in order for you to receive compo.

Or, just maybe, it was a Tesco employee who did it! My photo circulated around the whole of the UK (labeled Tesco Enemy No. 1) two years ago for once R&R'ing a bottle of wine they overcharged me on had been imprinted in his brain. And when he saw me he just couldn't contain his anger!
Sigh. Why do some people always set out to cause trouble for no reason... You're being ever so slightly ridiculous.DONE: Great North Run 09! Raised £452 for the National Autistic Society

OK, thats very interesting, thanks for that. The incident was of course reported to the police (I went straight there as it happened where the officer saw for himself), I have no criminal record, however I'm still trying to get into the dentists as I've recently moved and cannot get into an NHS dentist anywhere near me (could be up to another month on the waiting list!)
