  • Good morning everyone. This is my first post as I came across the forum whilst searching for the company that have rung about 5/6 times in the past 2 hours...

I have recently just moved into new serviced premises in London with my new company and I came into the office this morning with 3 missed calls on the office phone, all withheld. All were before 8am so I thought that was curious. Since 9am I have had about 3 calls from the Electricity Registration people - asking to speak to my boss. He's currently away on business so they've been like okay we'll call back later - no-one has gotten into the spiel of what they do and what they offer - but then about 30 minutes ago I received a call from someone else asking if i had had calls from people claiming to resolve things if i am on an emergency tariff etc, and she was like just completely ignore it's all a load of bull really.

I saw from previous posts about registering for TPS - which, once consulting my boss, I probably will get us to do. And I've just done it for my mobile number as I always get calls from phone companies.

For those of you who have been caught out by these companies, I hope you get everything resolved soon!!
  • Meter Registration Service or MRS does not exist. It is a telesales company trying to get you to change your supplier.

The company behind it is: Commercial Energy : AKA Commercial Power which claim they work for all supplier when they only get commission for changing you to NPower, EON and there main supplier as Business Energy Solutions BES.

Commercial Energy and BES is owned and runned by the same person.
Andrew Pilley who is also the chair man for Fleetwood Town FC. My advise to all is when you get another call inform them that you know who they and have there details aswell as logging all the calls. And if they carry on calling, you will seek legal advise. This should then stop them from calling.

All they want to do is to profit from putting you on to a supplier that is around 20% more than your current supplier.

and also they are not based in manchester. there address is...

    Unit 3, 4 and 5
    Darwin Court
    Hawking Place
    Blackpool
    FY2 0JN

I hope this may be some help to you all.

I recently takeover a shop which was supply by British Gas. I phoned the British Gas to let them know I am the new tenant and want to open an account with them. I did not receive any reply for over a month. But they sent me a gas bill at higher rate from the date I took over the premises. I phoned them up and asked why they charged me more than he previous tenant. They replied that I do not have a contract with them. I phone them almost once a week about the progress of my application to set up a contract with them.
After several weeks I phoned them again regarding my application. They told me that they are no longer the gas supplier to the premises. The BES Commerical Gas has taken over the gas supply. I am really angry because I have never contact or sign contract with BES and how can they transfer the gas supply to another company without my consent. So I phoned the BES they told me the previous tenant has signed the contract with them a few months ago before I moved to the premises. I search the internet for more information about BES and was shock to learn there are so many people being trick by this energy company. I don't know what to do now.
Please can somebody tell me what should I do now.

Given the obviously dodgy nature of this company, the first thing to do is establish whether they are correct or are making things up.

Any switch is done via the distributor. This means a record is kept. So, you need to contact them and ask them to confirm the registration date for BES. Also ask them when BES initiated the switch since there will be a record. You ask Bgas this as well as they will receive this from the distributor.

Given you were actually billed by Bgas, was it for a date when BES say they started a contract with the previous tenant? If so, that casts some doubt on what BES are saying since Bgas would know they only need to send a final bill up to the switch.

Another thing to consider is, if you determine BES are right, you only have a Deemed contract with the current supplier, so any lock in contract they had with the previous tenant, ended when they left the premises. This means you can switch to get away from them and just pay up to then. You need to do this quickly since Deemed contracts for business often means high rates.

  • In reply to this, we have had very similar situations to so many people here in business excpet we have had our energy supply de-energised by BES.
We invested £150,000 initially into our bar & restaurant a year ago. All the same story's apply to being tricked into a contract by BES by commercial energy and all the usual lies.
We faught the prices & their company long & hard until they demanded £5500 in one go which we obviously could not do.
We are now persuing this legally although the worst thing we have found is that no one listens to small businesses unless you take the legal route.
We are drained and trying to salvage what we can now, the least we can do is try and get power back on for our landlord however, BES require £900 re-connection charge and an up-front deposit of £3500 from a new tenant or landlord. Other larger company's ie: N power, british gas etc of de-energised property's will re-connect for a small fee of around £100 and choose a supplier of your choice for your supply or free re-connection for entering into a contract with them.
So this leads me to ask to what end are BES & their rogue brokers ever going to be able to be stopped from making these totally unlawfull acts. We are a severe case and we have had no idea how to move forward, even the Ombudsman have had to be constantly probed by the newspaper articles & these forum comments but to still no real solution.
We are now searching for some kind of justice, not just for ourselves but for others who have been trapped too. I have read so much, but not found a great deal of information on those who have salvaged being de-energised.
Any help any one can give to ours or others is paramount to how this somehow becomes exposed and makes it a little easier for us all to find our own individual solution.

  • There is a very interesting investigation of 22nd April and from bbc 5 live pod cast, half hours worth of listening on andrew pilley, BES and commercial energy. It certainly hits the spot!!! I cant post the Link but if you google it its certainly worth passing this to anyone who is looking for answers. I hope this helps anyone out there.:j

Despite being fined by Ofgem and having a class action against them which they settled out of court this company continues to call small companies and lie lie lie about who they are. There is no such thing as a meter registration department or company or service. All they want to do is scare small business owners into thinking that if they don’t do something quickly (that means agree to a verbal supply contract with sister company BES at high prices) they will be cut off and their business will grind to a halt.

My question is this: Bearing in mind that they have used this illegal sales technique for a number of years (misrepresentation, false information and claiming to be something they aren't), why have they not faced a criminal prosecution? In any other walk of life the police would be involved, not just a toothless industry regulator like Ofgem. The directors of this outfit need to be prosecuted – yes that’s you Andy Pilley.

You will get calls from this company under the name of electricity renewals who will say they will do you a favour by calling you before your contract ends to get you the best deal and to make sure your company do not auto renew your contract tying you in for further years. The form they send for you to e-sign (so it is binding) basically gives them access to your account details from the supplier and allows them to sign you up, without doubt to BES. Be careful. Don't sign it and ignore them. It's not hard to put a note in your Calendar to remind you when your contract is due up and check any auto renewals you may have in place. You have the option to change suppliers at the end of the contract anyway!!!! Beware. :money: I did a company search and Pilley is the gaffer. They are based at hawking court bispham, next door to one of their other companies.

  • Hi people, long story short, i own a small business and last year was tricked into a contract with BES gas.
and have since i am doing everything i can to get out of this contract, which is 4 years on a viable rate at a starting rate of 5.24p and is called.

they cold called me everyday in the morning at least 2-3 times aday and i gave in to them in the end.

any ways, i would like to ask if there is anyone having the same problem as me right now, to take legal action against them because we do stand a better chance in numbers.

    please post your replies here.

    any thanks
