  • Just had a call from someone claiming to represent Central Meter Registrations asking about my new premises and meter readings. I was immediately suspicious as well have recently changed the address of the hotdesking service we occasionally use. I kept him talking whilst I did an internet search and the first entry I found for Central Meter Registrations referred to a scam and an article in the Daily Mail back in 2010. As soon as I mentioned the article the line strangely went dead. Funny that.

Why don't you all either pretend to, or actually record the conversation? You could put it on loud speaker, then record with a dictaphone. I have one and it didn't cost much. If the conversation is on the landline and you have no loud speaker, the dictaphone or mobile will still pick it up, or, just pretend you're going to record it.

Just say: ' I'm informing you that I'm going to record this conversation. I have the legal right to do so, and pass it on to a 3rd party, if you agree to being recorded.'

Doubt whether you'll even get that far. Watch how quickly they hang up.

It could be handy too if you're getting repeated calls from the same people, and they are using abusive language.

  • Hi Chaps, this is my first post just thought i would offer some help, today i recieved my 32nd call from Central Meter Regaistrations / Meter Registration service / any loads of other variations, anyway, i managed to get a number and i also found out where they are based, ive done some digging, and i have done the following, i reccomend everyone else to do the same,

Contact your local trading standards office, they put me through to the consumer standards department, i reported the issue with them, they confirmed they are working on a legal case already and need more people to tell them about there issues, they then logged the issue with my local trading standards department, and also passed my details of my issue to the information commission and advised me to call them, which i have done and logged the issue with them.

You can register with TPS, but as i am a business i do enjoy sales calls, as it helps me get better business rates, so i have not. In a nut shell we all need to do the same, i am also contacting ch4 bbc itv, maybe they will do a hidden documentary lol.

Anyway lets get them sorted, good luck every one,
  • I moved in to my new offices last week (serviced offices). They started calling me just after I registered my business with some directory sites, so am fairly sure this is where they got my details. I have tried being polite, explained Im in serviced offices, and been assured my name will be taken off their list. I am still getting calls which tend to start "I'm calling about all the calls we believe you have been getting...." then they try to tell me I need to register my meter with them (I don't even have one).
I know they are in breach of the data protection laws, in holding my information against my express wishes, the trouble is I don'y know who THEY are. I can't find any working website or details of the company. Can anyone help me out - I want to report them.
On the last call when I told him to just STOP ringing me, he said he was going to get loads of people to ring me. Probably not the answer but I'd love to meet him face to face.

Have been receiving calls from this company for the last three weeks. Three or four times a day. I have ignored the call, hung up on them, spoken to them and asked to be removed from their list (which they say they will do - HA!) and even left the phone by the tv so they could enjoy some Jeremy Kyle. Still they keep calling!

Thing is, I am not even a business! We just live in a farmhouse so have Farm in the name! They don't seem to believe me! When I told them this was probably the problem (when I still had the patience to bother chatting). He kept saying 'so who deals with the farm's electricity?'
    'it's not a farm.'
    'so it's residential?'
    'yes'
'so who would I speak to about the farm?'
    'there's no farm!!!!'

Obviously intelligence is not a requirement for the job!

Seriously though, I ended up phoning the nuisance phone calls service to ask what I should do, I am already on the preference service. And he said without a number I can only stop them by paying for another service or if I want them to trace the call, to get a number they can then block, I need to get the police involved! I think we should do away with this number withheld thing, if you are calling someone why should you need to hide from them?

Seems ridiculous that the hassle and cost seems to lie with the people being harassed!

I just had these clowns on the phone. They called a total of 18 times yesterday.

To say I was a little pi**ed off would be an understatement. I find that taking the p out of them helps alot. Ask them if their happy with life etc!

That's exactly what I'm gonna do!

I've had enough of these fackers - calling at ten minute intervals, tying up my phone lines.

We've just moved into new business premises and lo and behold "meter registrations" call up, the usual spiel, "oh, sorry about that, I understand that you've been called by so and so, well I'm a manager and I can help sort this out for you, and I'll make sure that you stop receiving phone calls".

    Three words: BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!

I've now registered our business lines with the corporate telephone preference service (Google "CTPS"). Although it takes 28 days to kick in, depending on my mood, I will indeed by ripping the p*ss out of them until the time I leave the office. If it so happens that these scumbags catch me on an off-day, then the only words I'll be exchanging with them will be in writing from my solicitors.

    Basterds! Honestly! :mad::rotfl::rotfl:

Hi, I forgot to say that one guy told me that when you register with the directories, thats how they got my number.

List your phone number(s) with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS). Also works with commercial lines (Google "CTPS").

It takes around 28 days to kick in, but once it has you can report any further calls you receive from these and other similar clowns.

    Good luck, everyone! :money::icotbaske

  • I have just opened new business premises and as soon as my phone line was connected - I'm talking 2 hours after it was connected, I started receiving calls from these people. One woman 'Diane' was so persistant, and spoke with such urgency and quickness of voice as to try and make me succumb to her demand asap that I felt it was wrong, so asked her to call back at 9am the next day, as I wanted to contact my electricity supplier before giving her any info.
I got into my shop at 8.15am, the phone rang 'witheld' at 8.25am, so I answered it, and it was her - so persistant again, saying i know i'm supposed to ring you at 9, but this is so urgent I need to get it sorted NOW, I told her I needed to speak to my supplier again first. etc
To cut a long story short, I contacted Eon as they were the premises supplier and registered with them asap. They told me about these brokers who call and apologised for them ringing all the time.
A week passed and no calls, then Friday I had 10 calls from them - I answered one of them and it was Diane again, so I spoke slowly and asked her name - telephone number -'why do you want that? she said, 'so i can ring you back' I said, then I asked for her business address - and she hung up!- Then this week I had 6 calls on Monday and one I actually answered the 'withheld' as i wondered who it may be, being so persistant, to be told it was 'Andrew' from Central Meter Readings' - and I just shouted down the phone 'STOP HARASSING ME!' and he had the cheek to say 'I'm only doing my job!', to which I replied ' Well !!!! Off and do it somewhere else!'
Today I have had 5 calls - I am now ignoring them totally, but if I get another, I may buy a whistle and blow it down the phone everytime they ring!
  • Hi All,

This is my first ever post!

I have also been receiving calls from Commercial Meter Registrations and their respective versions of the company, no matter how many times I tell them I'm simply self-employed and work from home in a block of RESIDENTIAL flats, they reply with "terribly sorry, we'll take you off the list"...and then call back! I saw someone suggest on this thread about going to Trading Standards for my area, I think I'll definitely try that.

If only I had as many phone calls from prospective clients as I do from scammers I'd be rich!
  • Hiya guys I can completely understand what's happening with you all last week I was caught out and signed up with BES through commercial energy. The day after I received a phone call from I must say a legitimate brooker and a very helpfull guy called Steve who informed me of the malicious and shamefull tactics used by this company he was hopefull of overriding there contact but unfortunately the already had a supply date on my meter making it impossible for him to help me rectify it. He then armed me with various bits of information to help me get this contract cancelled and I must say they really our working out for me and I now stay in e-mail contact with Steve and he passes on any relavent information to me so I thought I would share this link with you all. One point let's not tar all brookers with the same brush because Steve and his team have been more than helpfull with me and I would reccommend them anytime.
