  • MMmm watching Rick Stein in Sicily, mmm seafood pasta.. mmmmm swordfish.. mmmmmmmmmmmm...

Ahem! Morning all, it's the weekend! Today is the day/ night out I've been planning for - the separate £20 budget - already spent £5 on bus ticket home for the early hours of the morning, so £15 left. OH is buying lunch so should be ok ;)

Friend paid the money she owes me back into my account yesterday but had to do it by phone banking so I don't think it'll be through till Mon/ Tues. Will be handy for next week though!

Sicily is fantastic! I went round there on the train, I'm a big fan of Greece so I was looking at the ancient monuments - Syracuse, Agrigento, all sorts of stuff. Went up Etna (almost couldn't cos it was smoking that day). Ate my first prickly pear. In those days (maybe still? Pepe might know) a lot of Sicilians were migrant workers in Germany, and the trains were full of homecoming migrant workers with huge boxes of stuff they'd bought in Germany. I came home being able to argue in Italian!

Ooh, your night out! What are you going to wear????

  • Aww.. sounds fantastic Karma. I've been looking at Perugia recently as a possibility for next year (the evil Ryanair fly there), want to go back to Naples and that coast too though.

*looks out of window at rainy Yorkshire :( *

Yep, any of it would do nicely! Even the Yorkshire moors, actually.... but to enjoy that, you've got to have sort of "expedition" clothing - its not a gentle amble, is it :( I hope you get the holiday you want next year.

Went up Etna twice, once to North crater in 2ft deep snow and the second time 2007 to the Southern craters and she began to erupt while me and DS were there. We watched the ash falls for ages, with the whole ground shakling ( we were about 1000ft below the crater, about 1 mile away ) we had to leave for our flight and by the time we were back in the UK there was rivers of lava. My ambition is to be right by the side of a live lava flow so the next time she erupts I'm on my way.
stromboli also erupted a few weeks after I was on it, lew away te ridge where I was standing! Been back since and it was just a bit shaky and steamy.
Is there a name for a Volcano addict?
Geysers are good too, Iceland was a 'blast'.

Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:
