Redsquirrel's 'Striving For Better Days' Diary

Huh? How come I missed 5 days of your diary, squizz? Tell me, I want to know :rotfl:
Sorry about the headaches, both of you. Not nice - hope you're feeling better.
Its so difficult when you feel you're just marking time, isn't it... I think thats why I like plannng, it takes that away - but I do tend to over-focus, and live in the future a bit because of that. Still, I'll be going to the ballet class tonight. I might well find another dance class, tho, I'm kind of dreading the impact on my feet. Ah well...
Hope work is better today, squizz.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I don't know Karma, probably because it's been very quiet on here! Glad to hear you're back at ballet tonight. I'm going to have another look round at dance classes later, I still fancy doing that.
Hmm yes, living in the future. I don't have any serious long term plans - things like buying a house are so far off, if ever, that it's not worth even thinking about. I'm doing the Spanish stuff with half an eye on a new career but will have to see how that goes. My only plans seem to be holidays for the next year (and the marathon), but there seem to be long stretches of dullness inbetween. Yes, there will be nice nights out etc but, hmm, I think I need to go back to that 'striving to make my days better' thing.
Was having a look at Christmas temp jobs yesterday, wondering if it's possible to get something a couple of evenings a week for a couple of months to help get on top of the finances.. hmmm...Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Long term planning... imagine renting a nice little flat in Granada or somewhere... that would be good!
I may have to knock *buying* in Barcelona on the head tho - BBC News programme recently about the first European water wars - between Catalonia and Aragon. Last year, Barcelona actually imported tankers of water from France, the city had run out and Aragon, which has plenty, refused to supply any. And in France there were demonstrations when the tankers left. Very not good. Its one thing to be living there already, its completely another to literally buy in to trouble!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
No, not good! Maybe the camper van instead then?
I'm actually not sure if I'd want to live abroad, but definitely want to be able to travel more often. Other than that, I don't really know what I want, which I suppose makes planning difficult!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Travelling more often is a plan! And think how travel-friendly Spanish is - even if I didn't like Spanish best as a language, its the one I'd learn if I wanted to travel. See, it all hangs together!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

True - my travel plans for next year are mostly Spanish-speaking based
A bit of maybe positive financial stuff - just run my rent/ income figures through local council Housing Benefit calculator, and it looks like I might be eligible for about £100 a month. Not totally sure as it's complicated a bit by the fact my rent is higher than their 'allowance' for a 1 bedroom flat, and because it includes electricity & gas, but once I get my new lease (due for renewal next month so it should be here soon), I'm going to fill in the forms anyway and see, it would certainly make things a bit easier. Tried the same with the WTC site, but it says - "you are entitled to WTC... of £0.00 per year!" :rotfl:Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Found my glasses, with one side broken as in the arm, so am sat typing lopsided...I didn't know that about Barcelona..v.scary if you live there. I like the idea of a temp Christmas job, when i was younger i did that all the time as it was a cheap night out, got paid and had fun..perfect.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Aww you'll have to get the sellotape out Bob!
Where did you work for Christmas temp jobs? I was thinking of maybe shelf stacking in Boots or something along those lines. Not sure how easy it'll be to get hours to fit in with current work but I'll have a look round.
Just got some free cinema tickets for a preview next week, probably be going on my own (*sniff*) but it's an evening out, isn't it?!
And been reading an online article about "how to beat the credit crunch" - does anyone else read these and go "yeah, yeah, tell us something we don't know!"?Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -

Aww... I know it can feel bad- but even tho you're changing, you're stuck with the *consequences* of previous isolation - this is my stuff too!And been reading an online article about "how to beat the credit crunch" - does anyone else read these and go "yeah, yeah, tell us something we don't know!"?
I read those all the time, thinking I might find something I *don't* know - :rotfl: and I rarely do! Shows how complete this site is!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Well you know i was always really lazy with them. My first lot was on the canal..party barges, brill night out and only 5 mins walk away..the second was in the pub near said canal and the third was in the infamous Riverside club in Southport. A bit further away, but i was working with my uncle who was the doorman and my neighbour and rest of family. Never short of a lift as uncle took us, never had any probs as he was 6"7 and built like a brick sh*t house, his cousins were also bouncers:rotfl: and the family who ran it were the most generous of folks..we were so looked after that it ensured a good base of staff:D The downside of it was that they were so hard to turn down and at one point i was working all three and a full time job. I was rich and had nowhere to spend it as i had no time:rotfl:Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
