Thanks Tiamai-d, you're right, it is still a list (and the house is still a shambles:o) so thanks for that.
Serena, that book is good, and thanks for pointing out the 'have it all' myth because so often women put themselves under ridiculous amounts of pressure, and life was much easier (?) or at least simpler, when roles were clearer. The good thing is that we do have choice these days, so lets use is to our advantage, not to beat ourselves up!
Lyns, I'm really struck by your cutting back to 4 days because it seems to me you're getting the same amount of work but doing it in less time with less pay????? You could still ask for less, you sound a bit beholden to them because they alreasy changed your hours but I don't think you need to be. Maybe if you did 2 or 3 days they'd put something firmer in place so you don't end up doing too much for the days you're doing?

Just popped into the Boots thread and read about one of the ladies there who lost her 8 month old baby boy to meningitis on Wednesday. Now sitting here with tears rolling down my face.

Serena - I read about that this morning - its tragic. I can't imagine what that poor lady and her family must be going through.
Well I've not done much today, quick s&s, HHE on wii fit and had my hair cut.
Kids are driving me mad today - apparantly DS hit a girl with a stick (her mother appeared on my doorstep this evening to tell me) and DD went round a friends for tea and I've just had the girls mother on the phone to say that she has found poo in her bathroom sink. Talk about being mortified - I wish I'd stayed in bed today.
Hope everyone has had a better day than me.0 -
Lyns,
this 'have it all' thing for women nowadays is just a huge great con isn't it? Whatever you choose, something else has to give. And those famous women who say they have it all, have probably a huge staff.
I did go back to teaching part-time after I had DS1 and was so miserable that I handed in my notice at halfterm. I haven't in the least regretted my decision. But I have to be honest and say that I have given up career progression and a very good pension, so I may well regret it in the future! I think I should really have gone back when DS2 started secondary, but I didn't want to then. I got very involved with the National Childbirth Trust and worked as a volunteer at local and regional level for 12 years, which gave me plenty of adult company as well as time with the children.
Well Said Serena!! agree entirelyHave you ever read a book called 'I don't know how she does it?' I think it was written by Alison Pearson. Good read, and sums it up nicely!
I've read it, I've read it - great book! Funny thing is there is a chapter at the end that I "knew" - only thing I could come up with is that it might have been published as a short story (it was the "revenge" chapter and would work as a stand alone apart from the rest of the book) but I can't find any reference to it....nearly drove me demented trying to find out and I still don't know the answer :rotfl:People Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading

I haven't done very well this week as I've been off work ill. Have pottered and got bits done that way. Hopefully I'll be back at work next week but expect to be quite tired so not much will probably get done.
Then next weekend we are off to Chesterfield to collect my daughter as she is moving back in with her dad as a long term relationship has ended. At the moment she is doing a major decluttering as all her processions need to fit into the back of two cars. Biggest regret is having to sell most of her cardmaking and scrapbooking materials on ebay....still hopefully it will get her some money towards all the expences she is having to face.
Probably won't really get back into clearing the house until the end of term.......can't wait for the school holidaysWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -
taurus - I think the author worked for one of the major magazines - Good Housekeeping maybe? Rings a bell, so I think it is possible that she had an excerpt published there.
I don't know if you've seen any of my other posts, but you have cost me a lot of money recommending Harlan Coben! I ordered three from Playtrade, and I've been on there looking again this evening...it isn't much benefit to the housework either. It is never too late to become what you were always intended to be0 -

Hi serena...LOL after I typed my post I thought I'd have an online trawl to see if I could find out any more (it's been an age since I last tried) and turns out that the book was spawned from a column in a newspaper called the kate reddy column. I shall now sleep at night! :rotfl:
I haven't had too much chance to read all the thread lately, but am very glad to know you've not let housework stand in your way. Green metropolis is a good book buying site too ....... pleaase do have a look! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:(oh and do let me know if you need any further reading lists - I'll be delighted to oblige!)
Not too much flying done today. DS2 on teacher training day so we've had a nice walk together. Really need to get on in the kitchen tonight though, DD1 and her fiance and visiting tomorrow and staying over (they live about 70 miles away) as our small town has a 2 week music prom every June and tomorrow is the last night which means a party in the town centre until midnight. Excellent fun, fantastic music and a really cosy small town feeling. Love living here.
So - I'm off for a 2 hour flying fest and then I shall reward myself with an episode of I Claudius on DVD, then Jonathan Ross on BBC1, then bed and my book.......might send DH out to buy some sweeties...........................:oPeople Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading
