Why not buy a cheap one and see how you get on with it? If you find you use it a lot, you could buy a good one when (if) the cheap one breaks.0

Reverbe if I were you I would get one with a metal wand rather than plastic, I melted my last one by putting it in soup which was too hot, other than that, I think they are much of a muchness, but get the one with the highest watt rating you can affored, as the higher, the stronger it will be.It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

It might be a case of 'you get what you pay for' too - mine's plastic, but I've whizzed up hot soup with no trouble, and when I made marmalade I whizzed up the boiled fruit (before I added the sugar) so that there were no strips of peel (I don't like 'bitty' marmalade!).0 -
Ive been watching Ideal World, and realy WANT a Bamix, reality is I DONT NEED and CANT AFFORD a Bamix.:rotfl:
I commented recently on the food processor topic that i would probably use mine more if it was easier to clean, however i think a stick blender, mini chopper would suit my needs more, youngest daughter likes to make smoothies(and the accompanying mess),I want to make home made houmus, bulk egg mayo(the bamix guy had around 5 eggs+mayo all whizzed at once in seconds),home made pasta sauce, sandwhich spread type things...does anyone have this Philips one?,£24.99--1/2 price just now in Argos. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4238634/Trail/searchtext%3EBLENDER.htm
Ive also noticed that some Kenwood ones come with a "masher"..never thought of using a stick blender to get creamy mash, does it need the special attachment or does anyone else use a normal blender?Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.

I've got the one below what you are looking at - and it does everything I want it to... chops veggies small for soup, chops garlic in seconds (using choppie thing), the stick belnder I use for soups, but I am sure it would work for smoothies too..... As for egg mayo, I use a potato masher (yes, really!!!).

I looked at buying one and then realised my food processor had an attachment which sort of detached - so I can use it by itself. I have used the food processor ocne and the belnder attachment a lot. However before I realised this I did buy a cheap one from Tesco - very poor when confronted with anything with substance!0

I wouldn't use a stick blender for egg mayo - it's very difficult to control how fine it blends it and egg mayo needs some lumps of white in it, IMHO. I use a fork and it does it just right.
I've also heard that some varieties of potato can produce an absolutely disastrous (read inedible) result if you try to mash them with an ordinary stick blender. Some types seem to be OK, but try it at your own risk.:eek:If we are supposed to be thin, why does chocolate exist?0 -
Hi cooking-mama
I have one from lidl. It has a chopper attachment and a whisk and it is in use at least once daily and does everything I need.
This thread has lots of advice that may help you to decide:

I have one from Next, it was £16 with the various attachments, chopper, whisk, blender and a cup thing which I use for making smoothie and storing it in the fridge.
I only bought that as I had a Next voucher to spend but in all honesty a value one would do for soups, pasta sauces etc.Credit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011
