Thanks for all replies. I think I will get a Tesco's own one, maybe even the value one to start with. I am going to add it to the list as I am hoping to use the 'double up points deal' they are currently promoting and get a few other items at the same time and make better use of the clubcard coupons I still have stashed away!

Definitely start with the value one. If it falls to bits or breaks, take it back for a replacement. If you buy the more expensive one, you will never know if you could have just got away with the basics one as so many on here have, and you will be out more money.

Am really enjoying making soups and have been for a while. Tho sadly all have had to be chunky. I was thinking about looking into one of those hand held stick blender type things - as we have a large army type pan to accomodate it. I have vague recollections as to some ppl on MSE saying the cheap value ones are good - the ones that cost about 5 quid or so - but am aware that cheap doesnt always mean good value or lasting quality. I am willing I guess to go up to 20 quid or so for one that will do me a long time but am looking of course as a mser to get a good un for as little as poss...

Can anyone here advise me on their experience ?

    Thanks x

I've had a cheapie from Mr.T for about 3 years now and I find it fine.I would say you might struggle to get it as smooth as a goblet type blender-I suppose it depends how much volume of liquid you have, but I've always thought it was good value for money.Easier to clean than the goblet type too.I've got both and I probably use the stick one more.HTH

I always use a stick blender for liquidising home made soup and the only problem I have is that I tend to splash the soup around the cooker if I am not really careful.

My stick blender is a really cheap one from Argos.

I also use it to get rid of the lumps in a white or cheese sauce.

Tried them. Prefer a proper goblet blender. More control, less mess.

I bought a cheap one for £7 from one of the supermarket 2 years ago. I have used it at least once daily for 2 years & it's still going strong.
