Oh, he had a little 'incident' at school yesterday and caused some rather painful damage to the skin on my left arm. He's been lovely today, if slightly anxious, so I am hoping he will settle a bit now he's on holiday.
His teacher (who is leaving to go to another school from September), came over to have a little chat with me today - I thought he was going to say Ryan had been in trouble, but he actually just wanted to say that he has enjoyed teaching Ryan, he has learned a lot, and will miss him. I felt really touched that he said that. I think he was genuine too, because he wasn't going round saying it to everyone, he just pulled us aside.
He also told me, in not so many words, that I really needed to push the school to make sure Ryan gets the help he needs. He seemed to be impying that school were not really doing what they need to be doing at the moment, and I might have a bit of a fight on my hands.
So my first job next term will be to chase up the things that were agreed with the head teacher in our meeting a few weeks ago (none of which have happened yet, apart from the things that WE have done ourselves, such as the Aspergers passport)."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Yes Snaggs, I can see where the teacher is coming from..........If you dont keep reminding, pushing and often fighting for things then they just get left by the wayside.
I would definately keep ontop of everything that was agreed, no one else will:o
My friends son has just been diagnosed with Aspergers..............at age 13:mad: his is mild on the spectrum but completely goes to pieces in social situations and has been the target for bullies since he started in reception class............she has gone through hell and heartbreak with that boy.
The school have a wonderful team who have put a plan in place but she knows she is going to have to keep up with whats going on just incase things start to drift. But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -
Goodness Louise, 13 is late for a diagnosis - I'm not surprised she's had a hard time. Ryan doesn't get bullied too much yet thank goodness, although I can see that some of his friends do take advantage of him sometimes. I do worry what the future will hold for him, but all I can do is deal with things as they happen.
He's gone to my Mum and Dad's for the night, and they seem to be doing really well with him. Mum just rang and he has had a little tiny outburst, but other than that is quite settled and happy. Natasha has decided that she isn't going to go to sleep though tonight....typical!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -

I hear ya sista.
I'm shattered because of my little monkeys waking me up in the night...Empty pockets never held anyone back, only empty heads and empty hearts can do that -Peale0 -
I feel your collective pain, Elliot didn't read the bit in the baby book that says he should be sleeping through by now...
How is your arm Snaggles? I was sorry to read what happened but I am sure you handled it well - a shame that people stare and judge, but what do they know? My mum had some struggles with my brother when we were young and people always just thought he was badly behaved0 -
Oh dear! Ryan obviously skipped that chapter too!
Natasha sleeps like a....well, a baby! She is a little angel sent from heaven when it comes to going to bed (although her 5.30am starts in a morning are not so angelic ).
Whereas Ryan would sleep in until lunch time, given half a chance. Considering how badly I suffer from insomnia sometimes though, I can't really complain, because he obviously gets his sleep problems from me.
My arm isn't too bad today thanks - there's just one bit that is still sore, but I'll live.
I like your new avatar DD, it's very arty."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Aww thanks Mrs S
Any tips on the bedtime thing then - I have just handed a VERY grumpy Elliot to his dad who will rock him to sleep hopefully, but not before a tantrumIt is so tiring. I don't know where we went wrong. I tried the whole thing of putting him down awake but he gets hysterical and I - we - can't leave him to cry
It's a wonder I am not back on the booze
Roll on the teenage years? :eek:0
