Sorry, what then? I don't know what GF means!0 -
addy1 stopped posting, literally about a week before you signed up.
there were lots and lots of things in common between your situation and hers
I should stress that I had no problem with addy1, or with you. I was just struck with the similarity, but slight difference in your scenarios. It's a health benefit ...0 -

ooo weird. No I seriously am not the same person. I will try to remember my old username then you can see. Don't think you get an email when you join though do you? Addy also sounds like a blokes name but oh well!
That's quite amusing that people thought I was someone completely different the whole time!0 -
Wow!
A useful internet skill is to know when people are goading you and simply ignore them.
Some posts on this thread are so out of character for the posters (AFAIA) that I have had to do a double-take.
People form opinions of you from your posts, take offense and then have a go when they feel the time is right or they've had enough. Human nature I suppose.
It's to do with being British and being on the internet I guess. Say little to show displeasure, simmer and fume quietly then BAM!, attack! Everyone's guilty though.
Difference is, some internet folk are rather vile in their expression of their opinion and that makes them more likely to get strong responses when people feel they're fed up.
General advice is to take everything with a pinch of salt, breathe in deeply and move on.
And another thing, thank God we're not in the States where owning a gun is for every T,D&H. It's not impossible to trace people online if you know how.
Some posters would have been shot dead by now!

I know, you are right. The funniest thing is that, and I suppose it comes from having never been on any other forum from this one, in real life, you sit and talk to someone, and reason with them and most of the time you can both come to see each other's point of view, even though you may not agree.
Whereas on a forum the social rules are slightly different, and I suppose what this thing about me being someone else (which I'm not, by the way!) just goes to show is that you can't tell who is behind the screen.
Sorry to everyone for going completely off topic on this thread (although to be fair it wasn't really about house prices to start with!) I apologise, it is just that sometimes people wind you up and it can be very annoying.
A lot of people clearly think I am arrogant and self obsessed, but I normally relate things to stuff I know about, and I am suprised I come across in this way. Another thing that is different on the internet than in real life, you can come across wrong in the written word.
So, I am genuinely sorry if people feel this way, I don't think I am better than anyone, and I never meant it to come across that way. You say stuff on the internet that you wouldn't say in real life, like talk about salaries and stuff, particularly not amongst total strangers!
If people are that annoyed with me posting I will go elsewhere, I just find it quite an interesting board with a mix of banter and factual info and have learnt quite a lot. I might become a reader rather than a poster though.0 -

No no no!
I think this thread is great.
I "like" a few of the posters on this thread, the fact they are arguning doesn't mean I now think some of them are f%^*$"$ c&(*$" as seems to have been suggested..... ie that there is somehow a moral right and wrong in this argument and we should all be able to see it.
So don't take anything to heart LillyJ, keep up the "questioning mind" DD, carry on with your self-righteous attitude Izzy (you remind me of others on this forum who seem to have become a little overwrought with some threads/arguments).

I don't own a TV, so this makes great entertainment
I think this part of the MSE forum is great - some people are on here to get a bit of knowledge so they can form an opinion as to a possible HPC, some already have an opinion and want to make others believe them or just want to have a good arguement, others just want something to do in order to make the time go a little quicker - be that work or home time. DDad falls into this catogory, I think.
It all goes a little tits-up when people start to take things a little too personally, and that brings us back to the thread title Why are some people on here being so nasty? (to keep thread on topic so it doesn't get lost in DT, and just in case everyone is now a little lost and has forgotten what we are supposed to be talking about) Some people leave a bit of bait down and along comes another poster who eats it up - and then takes it personally. DDad has got you hook, line and sinker, Lilly, he is winding you up and you are letting him. Stop biting.
IMHO, I don't think there is much nastiness on this part of the forum ( and I have to ask anyone who thinks people are being nasty on here - have you been on another internet forum?), but I do think there is a lot of winding each other up - which makes for great reading once it gets going.

As Davina McCall used to say to the Big Brother housmates when they left the house and stepped into a maelstrom of boos and jeers, "It's just pantomime", the BB audience don't really hate the housemates, they just enjoy a good 'boooooo' and that's the case here.
On this thread I'm the pantomime villian with a black hat and cape, Conrad is a Dame, borntobefree is an Ugly Sister and you're Cinderella, while on the DFW I'm Buttons (i.e. a big softie), Conrad would be the Villian and borntobefree would be ignored. It's all meaningless, so don't take anything that people say on a forum to heart, their opinions are unimportant - it's the opinion of your friends and family that matter.
Enjoy the 'rough and tumble' and don't reveal anything about yourself or your life that you don't want used against you (I once discussed my disabled daughter on the DFW and she was poked fun at by MUSTBEFUNNY - the only time I've been 'hurt' by anything said on the internet).
Simple as that really. So don't go, I'd miss you.Mortgage Free in 3 Years (Apr 2007 / Currently / Δ Difference)
