  • Actually, that bit really bugged me, culpepper. They said that they only threw out a wheelie bin a year, but they didn't say HOW they managed it. Interesting though. I think the programs are getting better.

  • Culpepper: Unless I'm going mad, I'm sure they said something about the thing under the sink saving the food for compost or something similar? Can anyone confirm this or am I making it up?! Considering that the other week she was going on about people who put food down the sink/toilet....

If so, I want one! The bf doesn't understand about scraping plates...

I thought the waste disposal output was saved for composting too. I suppose they collected the liquidised goo somewhere and took it away on a regular basis.

Scraping plates? What's that then? :)

I ask because I'm much better at portion sizes these days and I have a rule that if I I've gone to all the trouble of preparing it and cooking it and putting it on a plate I will darn well eat it. Or else! :)

  • Ha - it's only on the boyf's part Squeaky. I do mine, then I do his, and he stands there moaning that "make sure I give him enough or he'll still be hungry" and makes me add a little more, and then always without fail leaves two mouthfuls on his plate. Letting him cook is also a disaster e.g. he makes enough rice to feed a small country.

Never mind, the pet rats appreciate his scrapings...the bin doesn't get it, they do...its another form of composting!! :)

my gran used to say that too squeaky, not heard it for ages, thank you, made me smile, and brought back happy memories.
i got the book although i've yet to get too far into it, but it looks a lot more in depth than the tv programs have been. does anyone know how many shows are left?
  • My mum says that, I was taught the concept at an early age!

I'm willing to bet his mum doesn't, she serves up ridiculous platefuls of stuff, worried that her kids/guests will starve, etc...!

My OH has finally managed to work out that I don't eat the same amount as him - about half normally - mind you know where he gets it from his dad cooks enough for double the amount of people eating and there are normally seconds at least - it's our turn to go there for Christmas this year - dread to think how much food they'll be then - hardly any wastage any time at my parents house - mum always seems to do the right amount.
