Missed the beginning, so don't know what their lifestyle was like before but it seems like she's made a big impact on them. (If not on their wardrobes!)
I was pretty shocked to find out that cotton is so bad for the environment!
Still, it's made my hubbie agree to stop running the tap when he's brushing his and our son's teeth.
Oh, and I ordered a composter yesterday morning and it arrived today. £5 including delivery. It's huge! A company in Leeds have got an offer on. Blackwall, 0113 2018024. I don't know how far they deliver to but I'm about 30 miles away from them.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
To be honest, with the amount of waste from those two how could they possibly fail??
It's made my kids think very hard about what they do though, there were some good discussion points in that programme.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

I thought it was one of the better ones in the series - couldn't believe how people would throw what looked like brand new clothes out with the rubbish - if they didn't want to sell them on then fine - but at least donate them to a charity shop - makes me wonder how many other people in this country routinely through out perfectly good clothes with their rubbish.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

i thought it was interesting, the throwing out of clothes shocked me though too. and the fact they didn't put there clothes in the wash with the others for goodness sake, what difference does it make. but i found the labels of how many litres of water interesting, just a shame i didn't have time to note it down, or i'd hace done the same to show the kids what they waste which drives me mad.0

I've got the book which goes with the series and here are the amount of water it says we use for different things from that:
Bath 120 litres
running taps 1 litre
washing 8 litres
brushing our teeth 2 litres
taking a shower 30 litres
flushing the toilet 40 litres
washing machine 120 litres
dishwasher 60 litres
watering the garden with a sprinkler 60 litres
washing the car with a hose pipe 90 litres
Hope that helpsInitial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

Is that (average) litres per day? There is no way it is per flush!

It was 7 litres a flush on the tele last night - sorry I just copied what was on the page
- I've put the book away now - I'll just go and check .....
Ok at the top of the page it says (doesn't make me much the wiser so I thought I'd copy it again):
On average, a person in a developed country such as the UK uses about 150-160 litres of water a day and we tend to use it in the home in the following ways:
then it lists the figures I've already postedInitial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

I was quite pleased in this episode,to see that the money saving was not the most important factor to the couple.
There was a very quick reference to a house in camberwell where the owners only put out 1 wheelie bins worth of rubbish a year!
The couple had a waste disposal unit fitted into their sink which I suppose meant that their food rubbish was washed down to the sewer?0
