Interview with Penny - a chance for you to ask her a question:
I got this in the City hippy newsletter:

Poyzer's Pointers
Now it may have escaped your notice but City Hippy is a big fan of the UK
BBC TV show: No Waste Like Home - see our reviews on the site.
The show airs at 8:30pm on Thursdays on BBC2. Sorry non-UK
folks...please do petition BBC America to run it in the US
(http://www.bbcamerica.com/).
The host of the show, Penney Poyzer, is quite possibly the UK's first
mainstream Green Guru!
Well...have we got news for you!
We got in touch with Penney, a lovely genuine soul, and invited her to do
an interview on the site. And she said yes!
We thought it would be nice to give all of our loyal newsletter subscribers
an early bird chance to ask Penney a question as part of the interview. So
get thinking. Email your questions for Penney to cityhippy AT gmail DOT
com (by Sep 30th please) and we will select the best and include them in
the interview. If you want us to mention your name, city and website, if
you have one, in the interview then include that too. Fellow bloggers welcome.
We will ask the regular non-subscriber readers nearer the time but you will
get priority and more time to think about it as a thanks for your loyalty.
Thoughts?

Then why in the episode with the babies, did she do her nut when the mother scraped her plates of sloppy wet goo, into the loo?
Surely that had the same result?
Not to mention the electricity used for the insinkinerator to actually chop up the waste.
Hmm!
When I was at primary school we had to scrape our plates into a bin which then got taken away to feed pigs on a farm somewhere.0 -
Yup. We did that too, culpepper. But even when I was in primary school, it upset me that the pigs were going to get fed pork...
Does anyone know if you can put cooked food in the composter? We're veggie and I thought probably we should avoid egg or dairy things? But bread, dropped crackers and veg/fruit things?May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

As far as I know(I have John Seymours book on self sufficiency so really its his knowledge not mine), you can put cooked food in the composter if you rat proof it.You can do this by standing the composter on a metal perforated sheet and having some sort of tight fitting lid.Im thinking of doing this myself next time my composter is empty.0

My local council (Harringey) are now collecting waste for composting (yay) - we can include all fruit and veg cooked and uncooked and also meat. We have to put it into the bin and they take it away one a week. As a result the bin is now full of maggots from the rotting meat I guess. I asked the council what I should do and they say I am NOT to put the waste into a bag - fair enough - they suggested I line it with newspaper so that the bin remains clean and the maggots get chucked out within the newspaper. Is there a way I can avoid the maggots? and I always thought you couldn't compost meat or newspaper or cooked veg? Any ideas?[size=-2]Remember its nice to be nice and its good to share!

The bin should have a close fitting lid to keep out the flies
Your council must be doing their own thing somehow because the hdra compost site advises against meat and newspaper and cooked food. Hm...
Anyway - if they're happy composting meat they can compost the maggots tooHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. We don't have a garden as such. Just a yard with a border and some pots. Not sure how much we'll have to put in now I think of it. Mostly banana skins, onion skins and cat hair I think. We throw very little food away. Maybe more than I realise. Shame about the grass cuttings. Maybe I'd have pinched my parents' except that I've persuaded them to get one too.
We were advised to put 'wee' in it but my hubbie refuses to use his and mine is full of drugs! (I'm thinking not good for the herb garden!)May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

Pretty interesting. I've been wondering how to organise recycling in our house. Our kitchen doesn't even have room for one bin never mind all those. (Once the nappy bin and the cat food and water is down it's a squash to get to the sink.)
I don't mind popping outside every time I need to throw something away though. I've been bobbing out to the composter and paper bin without thinking about it. But I don't want to buy a load of wheeled bins that probably aren't made of recycled material and won't fit in the car. Hmmm I'm going to do some googling now!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0
