    I got my real quarterly energy bill yesterday and am a very happy bunny. The readings were accurate and the total was £91 for the quarter. The last 2 quarterly bills were each just less than £96 so my usage has gone down a lot and that is in spite of having the ch on and using more lighting etc.

    I put it down to the ecocamel and to using the remoska instead of the oven for the last few months

    The thing is that we feel very comfortable and are warm and cosy and I bake/cook at least twice every day. I can`t understand mainstream people (not on this thread) who get high bills, moan and then do nothing about it. It just becomes a way of life

    This is so embarrassing:o

    I just put my 2nd reading into imeasure.

    You have been taking readings for 1 week

    Since you started measuring your total household -
    Energy use is 1,003 kWh (Gas: 897kWh | Electricity: 106kWh)
    Carbon emissions are 240 Kg CO2 (Gas: 185 Kg CO2 | Electricity: 55 Kg CO2)
    Last week you spent:
    • £31.40 on gas :eek: (That's MUCH more than we used to spend on coal!)
    • £12.72 on electricity
    Mind you, the boiler had its first service yesterday and I didn't realise til 1.30am that the engineer had flicked the switch to "on" instead of "timed". That, along with the fact that he had turned the boiler up from 1 to 1.5, may have made a difference.
    Apparently our 20 year old boiler is rated G. Perhaps we'd be better off putting in a wood-burning stove.:(

    It says I'm 21/61 though. That can't be right, surely?

  • Well sylvan I am about to make you feel better.

    82kwh of electric :eek::eek::eek:
    840 kwh of gas :eek::eek::eek::eek:

    For just two of us. I dread to think what our imeasure rating will be. this is up by 147kwh gas and 20kwh electric on last week.

    Actually I am kind of surprised by this. Admittedly I've had a cold all week and have been feeling the cold. And it has been cold as well. And I took the reading a few hours late. But I wouldn't have thought that would put the usage up by quite so much.

    Still at least we've had word in NI that gas and electric prices are likely to come down a bit after Christmas. Although it won't help me save the planet.

    And I've still got a nasty cough as well :rolleyes:

    Welcome to the challenge!

    Thanks belfastgirl. For the welcome and for making me feel better.:D Though you shouldn't really expect heating and cooking to cost much less for 2 than for 4 (In fact, the more warm bodies you cram in... :p)
    Since I can't turn the boiler any lower than "1" I've set it to come on for 5 hours less every day. I thought I'd try gloves and hot water bottles while I'm the only one at home.
    I really was shocked, since our last house was often too hot and the coal for a week used to cost much less than the gas does here to keep me barely comfortable.:eek:

    I do hope you feel better soon.

    Electric should have been 52 not 54 this wk and would of been, but I made an error on a timer clock and something stayed on all night:mad: I was so miffed in the morning when I realised.:rolleyes:
  • Excellent result TITEASCRAMP. Alas I did the same with my gas on monday after a good reading - fell asleep with the heating on. Probably used two more units than I needed to.

    According to the i-measure site, I spent over £42 in electricity last week! But, as it's a prepayment meter I now have, I can tell you the exact amount I spent was, in fact, £28.96 so I don't quite know how the i-measure site calculates their figures. (Still in awe of all you people who use hardly any electricity.) I'm 23/56 in the carbon club, again I don't know if their figures are very reliable.

    Last week you spent:
    • £0.00 on gas
    • £42.96 on electricity
    Total you have spent on energy since starting imeasure (1 weeks ago):
    • £0.00 on gas
    • £42.96 on electricity
    I reserve the right not to spend.
    The less I spend, the more I can afford.
