Your slow cooker shouldn't use a huge amount, though it could account for one days increase if you wouldn't normally have had a traditional (electric) oven in use to cook whatever was in it.

I put mine onto a power monitor yesterday. 6.5 litre slow cooker with an 800g belly pork joint and 1.5 pints water. On low for 4.5 hours (and a few seconds!). Used 0.99kWh.

So when I next do a chicken (high for an hour, then low for 5 hours or thereabouts for a 3kg+ chicken and 2.5(ish) pints of water), I wouldn't expect to see it to use more than 2-2.5kWh

But how sad is this -- I'm now thinking that next time I manage to pick up a cheap belly pork joint I should roast it in my combi oven...... just so I can see what I save by using my slow cooker :rolleyes2

Mind, it might help me prove to DH that it's worth having half the kitchen surface taken up with the slow cooker whenever we fancy a roast ;)

Well slow cooker was on for most of the day so thats probably 2KWH extra, our oven is 0.75KWH (i think) and probably used it for an extra say 4hrs this week so thats 3KWH. Plus hair dryer (2000watts) to dry 2 long haired dogs after bath 2KWH total 7KWH, so just need to try and work out what we used the other extra 7KWH on.

trying to "find" 7kWh doesn't sound quite as daunting as 14kWh though :)

Hi guys, I switched on more of the heaters in an effort to reach 16C in this house and have a tank of hot water for a bath, today the room temps are 14C and we used 39 units overnight!! It has not made any impact on the overall temperature of the house at all, all it has done is ensure that the bedrooms, kitchen and livingroom made it to 14C rather than just the livingroom. Worse still, that is just the nighttime meter. If I count in yesterday's daytime units, it makes it to 55kwu over a period of 24 hours.

No wonder the call centres and factories are relocating to warmer climes - their carbon emissions and heating bills must have been monstrous! Now, however, some other country will be getting blamed for it! Britain isn't reducing it's carbon footprint, it's relocating it to elsewhere in the world!

Just entered this weeks readings into i-measure, and I'm not a happy bunny :(

Given our heating hasn't been working since heaven knows when (last noticed 23 days ago) until it was repaired yesterday afternoon, I didn't think we'd see much of an increase in the gas -- but the daily average for this last week is up 0.8kWh on the previous 4 weeks. And as for the electricity,, I've been going round the house testing (and powering off completely when not in use) a few small useage appliances, but the we're still up 0.4kWh/day on the same comparisons

And we've dropped from a 'B' to a 'C' in a single week -- with heating only for a total of 5 hours in the week

We're also 51/58 in the club (must be the bug -- I keep telling myself it's in reverse order and we should be 8th ;) I may be wrong about that, but it sure makes me feel better :rolleyes2 )

    Last week you spent:
    • £1.93 on gas
    • £9.72 on electricity
Total you have spent on energy since starting imeasure (5 weeks ago):
    • £8.92 on gas
    • £47.28 on electricity
compared against all g&e households (166 of us) I get

Carbon emissions Kg CO2 (still under average for these :) )
    .......................Last week...Last Month.....Last Quarter
    Per person..........18 (31)........18 (28)...........0 (22)
    Per household......54 (83)........53 (72)...........0 (55)

    Gas use as kWh
(still well under average for gas :T )
    .........................Last week...Last Month.....Last Quarter
    Per Person............18 (89).........18 (72)...........0 (49)
    Per Household.......55 (230)........53 (181).........0 (119)

    Electricity use as kWh
(still above average, and until I change my freezer I'm starting to struggle to find anywhere I can save any more :( )
    ........................Last week....Last Month....Last Quarter
    Per Person...........27 (26)........27 (25)............0 (23)
    Per Household......81 (69)........80 (67)............0 (59)

Disgusting as it may sound, the electricity useage here has now reached about 40 kwu per day. I really haven't got a clue how you all do it and there's not a thing I can do to solve this problem (apart from move house, which we are doing in a fortnight). Tenancy agreements state that tenants MUST air and heat a property to a level that prevents damage. I can't switch heaters off and on at random, as the old storage heaters here can take up to 2 days to heat and, even with what we already have switched on (now up to 5 heaters over 3 floors) you can still see your breath in the hall, kitchen and top floor. We are north facing and get no sunlight in any of the actual rooms bar a tiny bit in the kitchen around mid-day. All of these heaters have cooled down by about 6pm and don't heat up again until cheap rate kicks in at 11pm. I can't wait to move!

Edited in - I should mention the fact that last winter, when we first moved in here, the first few days of 'landlord's settings' amounted to an average of 84 units PER DAY, so we are still less than half what the owners were when they stayed here. :D

That's so bad - roll on move day;):D

Eon they dropped my monthly amount by £17, based on the big reductions in usage over the last 6 months ( just had a bill and we're now £235.95in credit :D ) So that will help a lot for the next quarter, and we can have some heating!

Did everyone get the email about the winner of the £250 i-measure competition? Doesn't say much about who it is or what their household situation is, only that 'he' has been using i-measure for 17 weeks and asks how we compare.

Heated rooms now 14C, hall 10C, thinking of giving up trying to reach 16C, can anyone define 'fuel poverty'? I know it's to do with spending more than 10% of income on fuel, but who determines what that fuel has to do?

Well I've not been doing imeasure for 17 weeks. But I have just got credit card charges back for £250 so I am happy.

Re the fuel poverty I thought it was 10% of disposable income absolutely no idea about the temperature though I'd have thought things like fair rent and reasonable state of repair should come into it especially if it impacts on quality of living.
