    welcome on board ticking-over :)

sounds like you have one heck of a sense of humour there :D

and slightly mad too -- even I wouldn't crawl round my kitchen floor at 4am !!! (the ceramic tiles get a tad cold at night for doing that :rolleyes2 )

my first house (2 bed semi, 5 years old) only had a gas fire in when I bought the place (in a living room the stairs went straight up from). I then had storage heaters put in the bedrooms (couldn't afford a "proper" gas c/h system), but found they didn't keep the rooms warm until the following evening (think the heat "leaked" under the bedroom doors to some extent). So I used to run the gas fire on low for about 20 hours a day, and it cost me all of 50p/day which I thought was pretty cost effective --- mind, that was back in 1987-1989 :o

  • Just had a thought, not sure if on the imeasure site I've got the leccy reading right, I've put the reading for tariff 1, but we have 2 tariffs..... does that mean I should tell it we've got 2 meters and put both readings in or just put the total leccy used reading in?????
    Yep confused newbie.

Hi cw, I guess it does sound a little crazy crawling round the floor at 4am but with the iffy sleep pattern I have it's kinda normal for me to still be awake then or to have woken up and figured what the heck the day might as well start now... and there are times when the humour is the only thing that keeps me sane;)

you'll be on economy 7, so you need to tell it you have two meters and enter both as separate entities.

  • Ok added the 2nd tarrif reading, thankfully it was on the piece of paper from the readings I wrote down earlier so I didn't have to go and brave the stairwell again.... I know it's cold out there cos I heard my neighbours visitors leaving earlier an they were complaining about it.

  • :beer:Thankyou nykmedia ( #622) for reminding me about room thermometers. Mine seems to have gone walkabout, so I figured I'd have a look in town this week and was quite pleased to see this tonight

Then I had to look up what exactly a hygrometer was http://www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/en/co/maho/yohoyohe/momo/momo_002.cfm
seems useful to have both on the one, ordered one, which means no trip into town this week so no risk of impulse buys (an no bus fares).

    thanks for the pointer ticking-over

Another here who was seriously considering going to try and find a cheap room themometer, so now have mine on order as well. Have also ordered one for DD, so just hoping that goes through -- though it's a different delivery address the billing address is mine, so I'm not sure whether they'll let it through or not

(not ordered from them before, although I have a quick look a couple of times a week to see what the offer is).

Gone down from an A to a B still no heating but Electic usage has increased by 2KWH per day (14KWH for the week). Spoken to other half and apparently we've used oven, washer, TV and hair dryer more this week. Plus we had slow cooker on all day yesterday. Must try harder this week to get it down a bit.
Your slow cooker shouldn't use a huge amount, though it could account for one days increase if you wouldn't normally have had a traditional (electric) oven in use to cook whatever was in it.

I put mine onto a power monitor yesterday. 6.5 litre slow cooker with an 800g belly pork joint and 1.5 pints water. On low for 4.5 hours (and a few seconds!). Used 0.99kWh.

So when I next do a chicken (high for an hour, then low for 5 hours or thereabouts for a 3kg+ chicken and 2.5(ish) pints of water), I wouldn't expect to see it to use more than 2-2.5kWh

But how sad is this -- I'm now thinking that next time I manage to pick up a cheap belly pork joint I should roast it in my combi oven...... just so I can see what I save by using my slow cooker :rolleyes2

Mind, it might help me prove to DH that it's worth having half the kitchen surface taken up with the slow cooker whenever we fancy a roast ;)

For those of you in Northern Ireland, if you have a keypad meter you can use the following functions on your keypad to check your usage.

I used it last night to check the Kilowatt load when different devices were switched on in the house.

The halogen lights in the kitchen made it rocket!!

The full list of Keypad Displays
    • Key 1 Credit time left in days.
    • Key 2 Previous days/weeks/month(s) costs.
    • Key 3 Unit rate cost and number of units used at those rates.
    • Key 4 The last five 'PowerCode' numbers entered.
    • Key 5 Total money entered into the meter.
    • Key 6 Electricity presently being used (in kilowatts or £ and pence).
    • Key 7 Standing charge repayment rates per day (NONE AT PRESENT).
    • Key 8 Peak electrical demand (in kilowatts) over the last 24 hours and the time it occurred.
    • Key 9 Total units of electricity used (kilowatt-hours).
    • Key 0 Display Test / Time and Date.
    • Key 0 To acknowledge low credit buzzer and activate emergency credit.
    • Key * Before entering 20 Digit Code.
    • Key # After entering 20 Digit Code.

Just rechecked the forecast the high for today is 4 degrees and -2 by 9pm think I may need more than ten mins heating tonight. Don't like this sudden freezing weather.
