How has my energy spend been calculated?
    Last week you spent:
    • £19.78 on gas
    • £9.12 on electricity

Your results are being compared with the averages of 154 households. Yet otherday it said there was 190 people, makes me wonder if the other 36 people where scared of their winter readings

I think we're doing OK. 85kwh electricity and 408kwh gas - looks much better per person for us! I know we could do less but we have been warm and comfortable and I don't think we're being as wasteful as we used to be. I put our readings into Scot Power and it works out about £85 this month so my personal target is to keep it under £100 for November. Lovely day today so no tumble drier.

It could be that not all of us have put our figures for the week in yet -- mine don't go in until around 11am on a Tuesday ;)

  • My results are a bit weird IMHO!

This week I used very slightly more electric than the previous week and pretty much the same amount of gas and I'm now down to an E. My electric use is still comparable with the average (I'm at 69 KWH last week where the average for houses like mine was 67) but I'm at almost double the gas use of similar houses (388 KWH for the household compared to 215). And we are not being heavy handed with the heat - I'm putting it on for about ten minutes before the morning shower, an hour when we sit down in the evening and maybe a top up of about half an hour about 10pm. I'm still sitting with a blanket wrapped around me and my warmest dressing gown on over my clothes.

Think I am really going to have to investigate getting a new boiler. I tried looking up our boiler but even on google it doesn't show at all...

Oh and I'm no 54 in the club

but some of us still aren't running the heating at all ;) I've been running on an average of 51kWh of gas a week for the 4 weeks up to last Tuesday -- and that's with the heating on for a few hours (one day only) in the second of those 4 weeks.

(mine should have been running the last couple of weeks, but it appears we have a fault that BG are coming to look at this afternoon -- we're getting hot water OK, but the radiators are point blank refusing to warm up, even when I say I want the house at 30 degrees to try and get it to kick in when the thermostat is telling me the house is currently 14 degrees!!! And there's no airlock in the radiators either, as I've been round with the bleed key twice in the last 48 hours)

  • That does sound a bit iffy to me. well hopefully it will all be sorted today CW.

Have decided after hols what I am going to do is get a sealed tin, and the amount it says I use each week, I am going to put into the tin, that way when my bills come in, I wont be in arrears as I can pay it straight off.

    Fair point :)

Hope you get the heating sorted out, can't imagine having to do without at this time of year.

We had a similar problem a fe years ago it turned out it was the valve in the airing cuboard that switched between Heating, Hot water and both had jammed. They just replaced this and it worked fine from then on.
