lingojingo, are you sure it's the boiler that was responsible? We've been using our heating and haven't noticed much difference in electricity used.0

it does sound excessive..... I forced our heating on exactly 3 weeks ago. It ran for probably 3 hours, and added 9 units to our weekly electricity (and I can't guarantee we didn't have the tumble dryer on extra that week, but I do know I was stock taking my freezers which meant they were open slightly more so will have also helped to "up" the reading!)
are you sure no-one left a fridge or freezer door partially open for a while during the week?Cheryl0 -
Lingojingo, I would be very surprised if your CH pump was using that much electricity.
We have had the heating on more this week, my gas consumption has risen by 11 units, to using 33 units this week (I mean metered units on a metric meter) During the summer :rotfl: well weeks when no heating was used, we used approx 7 units.
My electricity usage has been the same this week and last, so my pump isn't using that much more.
Read your meter and then try putting the heating on for an hour and see how much has been used during that time, it may set your mind at rest.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

Since starting daily readings back in April we have averaged 7-8 units per day in the week and 11-13 at the weekend (everyone at home, most of the washing, ironing and batch cooking done, more use of computer, tv etc).
The Eon man was here about 1/2 hour, the heating was on some of that time, and next day 24 units appeared on the meter :eek::eek:
If it's any consolation, our heating is via storage heaters and EACH ONE can use 6 units through the night whilst set on low - there are 4 heaters, plus we need to supplement this with oil-filled radiators in the rooms that don't have storage heaters, plus a tank of water takes between 6 and 7 units to heat. I am easily using 40 units per day already and that's without having hot water or heating any of the bedrooms or the kitchen. Last winter, during coldest spells, we used 80+ units per day and the house was still cold. :eek:I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

I agree, I've had my heating on low for an hour this morning and its hard to detect any difference in electricity consumption.
Just found the manual for the combi - its rated at 190W so presumably it only uses that amount of energy when it is heating up on a cold day.
That said it is a D rated boiler. I thought it had to be a condenser boiler these days!?0 -
Fiend, I think it's only new boilers that have to be condensing onesOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0

Yeah, according to the manual it was installed in Feb last year the landlord had said it was a condensing boiler so it seems there are little fibs somewhere. The machine is about 76% for efficiency. I'm sure condensing boilers had to be installed from about two years ago.0

I've been having a look and found this, it seems 2005 was the changeover date.
I know that our boiler isn't a condensing one and tbh, I don't think it's very efficient either.
During the week, we decided to replace some of the blown bulbs in our bedroom light. Personally I was quite happy with 2 working out of 8 and I've even removed one of the bulbs from my bedside lamp
I was rather dismayed to see that the bulbs are 60w and as we have 8....it's almost half a Kwh  Mr Twit did suggest that I take 50p from him and bog off and leave him to watch football in peace.
Well, today whilst shopping in Sainsbugs, I found an energy saving equivalent (forgot to say that 2 of the bulbs have already gone) so, we are going to see how it looks...fingers crossed that I may have converted Mr TwitOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
I have entered my readings into Imeasure and it's official....we are a one household giant carbon footprint
Gas 366 Kwh
Elec 85 Kwh
Now propping up the carbon club, well 51/55Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Gone down from an A to a B still no heating but Electic usage has increased by 2KWH per day (14KWH for the week). Spoken to other half and apparently we've used oven, washer, TV and hair dryer more this week. Plus we had slow cooker on all day yesterday. Must try harder this week to get it down a bit.0
