Sui, you can buy thermal linings from shops like Dunelm Mill, these can just be added to your curtains.
Or, depending upon the size, you could use one of the fleeces that Asda are selling for £1.77, they are a decent size and come in brown or cream.
I think some of the posters on the Preparing for Winter thread on Old Style have done this.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Dunno about you guys but my heating bill's gonna be sky high this week - heating on all night and it's still not warm here. Tomorrow night said to be even colder0

I don't know about you guys but I may be too scared to do the readings on Monday..
CH will be on a large propotion of the weekend as i've 2 loads of washing to dry. I've had the gas fire on medium every night between 5pm-10pm with the heating on once for about 2 hours and the central heating on twice when i've had 2 baths.
Also, I don't take notice of the £'s spent on i-measure as my unit prices are quite a bit more than the prices i-measure use to calculate costs. I wonder if i-measure will eventually let us put our own energy unit prices in? Maybe I should ask them..This space is available to rent...0 -
I'm another that ignores their prices -- for starters I'm on a NSC tariff, which means the first so many units are dearer....... and in the 5 weeks I've been using i-measure we haven't once used all the dearer units on the gas!!
As I knew our heating was going to go on shortly afterwards, I submitted readings to my energy provider at the end of the 4th week - but would have "won" more if I'd waited another 7 days (though that was only due to our C/H being broken so we couldn't actually get it to come on last weekend!)
Not looking forward to reading our gas meter on Tuesday as the heatings been on (17-18 degrees) almost continuously from 8am to 9pm since Tuesday  I've managed to kick it off or down for a couple of hours here and there when DH goes out with friends or to bed during the day, but he's really feeling the cold this year so I can't afford to turn it off as much as I'd like
What worries me even more though, is that in the last few days DS, DH and I have all started with bad cases of the sniffles -- but we were all fine until the heating was allowed to come into play
I suspect even the electricity will have crept up due to the clocks changing last weekend (meaning the lights are going on earlier every day)

Ours will be awful despite all our best efforts as it's gone so cold this week. We're now using the same amount of gas per day as it used to be per week  and that's only with heating in the living room.
On the bright side, electricity usage hasn't changed much, but that means I still don't understand how we had such a high reading the day the heating had it's annual check.

I don't know curley I find it is not so bad if you read the meter with one eye closed. I am already up to 12 units on gas - the morning temperature has stuck around 12C so far. I've been going out for walks to get my metabolism going but I need to be online.
Time to recalculate my bill from the last one I think so I can see what I am letting myself in for. I am sure it will motivate me to cut back a little.0 -
I don't take any notice of Imeasures costs either - I can't think that they're accurate for many people by now with all the increases. I'd also vote for a system where you could put in your own tariff costs...0

Ok, i've asked they question about adding our own costs. Lets see what answer we get. This space is available to rent...0

Dreading mondays meter readings here as well. We've had the heating on for most of this week. On the up side managed to get some nice new curtains for the bedroom in the exact colour I wanted for only £15 in the sales, they are really thick high quality ones they are slightly longer than I wanted but really needed new ones and they were a bargain. Still going to look out for thermal linings to go under neath though (even though they are already lined), want to make sure we don't lose anymore heat.0

Well done on the curtains.
I'm not looking forward to my Sunday visit to the meters either
I dread to think what my gas usage will be this week. :eek:Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0
