last night i reduced when the HW is on to 3 30 min stints at 6am, 12pm and 4pm.

so 7:30am came around this morn and the missus goes for a shower. i was waiting for her to moan that there wasnt any hot water, but it never came! so, we've gone from 3 1 hour stints to 3 30 min stints. instant saving! just hope there's enough HW for the kids bath and another shower tonight.

another thing, i checked the thermostat on the tank to see what the temp is set to and its reading at about 56/57 degrees c. i think i remember i reduced it to this (cant remeber original setting) just after we'd had the new tank installed as the water coming out the hot tap was piping hot. im now startin to think this might be why it aint stayin hot for so long.

    any more thoughts?

    thanks in advance....

Last night was the first night I had the hot water on since switching on the smallest storage heater in the house (bathroom), so the shock reading this morning was 12 units between 11pm and 7am! Only 4 other rooms plus 2 hallways to heat this winter! I need a much more compact house asap!

I know! And that's just one small storage heater, hence the reason we averaged 81 units per day during the coldest part of last winter. Not a lot we can do about it bar move house and that's easier said than done when there's a severe lack of affordable rented housing in our area and no affordable houses to buy. It also means that there is absolutely nothing we can do to improve the house other than dress to suit the weather conditions.

(There is no way we can afford 80+ units per day this year, I'm aiming on cutting that right down by at least 25% and, thankfully, most of those are night time on economy meter.)

It's Monday again and the next set of tesults are brewing. My graph has taken a severe and steep upward turn just from switching on one small storage heater! My results for the past week:

    Your Results in Detail

You have been taking readings for 8 weeks
Since you started measuring your total household -
Energy use is 547 kWh (Gas: 0kWh | Electricity: 547kWh)
    Carbon emissions are 286 Kg CO2 (Gas: 0 Kg CO2 | Electricity: 286 Kg CO2)
    Money Spent

How has my energy spend been calculated?
    Last week you spent:
    • £0.00 on gas
    • £11.64 on electricity
Total you have spent on energy since starting imeasure (8 weeks ago):
    • £0.00 on gas
    • £65.64 on electricity
    Carbon Emitted & Energy Used

The results in the tables for 'last month' and 'last quarter' are in terms of the weekly average. The tables give you information about your household (black numbers) in comparison to the average imeasure households you choose to be compared (red numbers).
You chose to compare your household with (All users/All housetypes)

Your results are being compared with the averages of 119 households.

I am trying my best not to switch on any further heating between now and November but it's getting really cold and the dampness just isn't shifting! Searching for a bargain dehumidifier now and, hopefully, can avoid using tumble dryer and shift the dampness from hall at same time.

How is everyone else doing this week?

  • yeah monday.. meter reading day ;)... quite a good week for us unlike the week before.. minimal washing/TD week.. almost good weather.. also changed a couple of 50W GU10 bulbs for 1.2W LED GU10s in the kitchen, used every morning.. only £8 the pair from BQ.. also getting used to the Owl.. we can tell if things are left switched on in other rooms now ;)

    results, week 4:..

carbon rating C - 2/39 in MSC club

Energy use is 450 kWh (Gas: 177kWh | Electricity: 273kWh)
    Carbon emissions are 179 Kg CO2 (Gas: 37 Kg CO2 | Electricity: 143 Kg CO2)

    Last week you spent:
    • £2.31 on gas
    • £8.28 on electricity
Total you have spent on energy since starting imeasure (4 weeks ago):
    • £6.20 on gas
    • £32.76 on electricity
heating has kicked in a couple of mornings this week, room stat set to about 18degrees.. we're not really cutting back on things.. just tweaking the settings, using timers/E7 and filling up the appliances(DW/WM/TD etc)

well slight improvement on previous week and carbon rating reduced from C to B so feeling a bit better, still it would be nice to be a A or A+, but with winter coming this is very unlikely.

    Still a C - can't imagine ever being B with winter coming!
