Thanks Babe1 that means a lot, especially on a morning like this morning when I felt afraid again. I did the weekly shop and spent more than I meant to (still only £53, but more that the last two weeks - I guess we're running out of stuff). I suppose it's not all going to be highs. I definitely feel less in control at the weekends because it's chaos... good chaos of course with four children... I should try and relax a bit more.

Anyway, we're doing a treat with the children tonight - "pizza night" where we make our own pizzas (dough is rising as we speak) using left over tomato sauce from earlier in the week (!), then eat them in front of the TV (rare treat for the children and they love it). Dr Who tonight!

Hope everyone is having good weekends.

Hi Forgetmenot

Been away on holiday and popping back to see how you are doing.
Bad luck on the job front, but it's got you "out there" now and hopefully with more confidence. Don't give up because of one setback. Just take the positives from it and move on - as others have said, it's definately their loss.

Hubby's wage is being paid into a seperate account right now, isn't it? Can the cheque be paid into that "safe" account? Definately don't put it into your old account - you've seen what they will do as soon as money goes into it.

Got a cold right now so brain isn't really working properly. Also cut the holiday short after hearing gran was sent to hospital. Still getting tests, but looks like she has liver and lung cancer. She says she's going to let everyone else do the worrying and just sit back. Has said outright that she won't be taking chemo though. Not sure she is well enough for that anyway with all her other ailments - she better have some fight left in her though or i'm going to have to do that waggy finger thing. :(

Has hubby gotten his payrise? Not sure if i missed that in the posts.
Good to see you can still take pleasure in the little things with the kids - have they forgiven you yet? Do they have a better understanding of where things lie now (apart from "mum will kill us if we get a credit card").

Hope things continue to progress for you.

Forgetmenot...Wow!! I have just read through and just want to give you a big hug.

There are many people in worse situations than you, who haven't had to cope with everything you've been through so I really feel that you should hold your head up and be proud that you have taken control and are dealing with this.

I don't think I have any fresh advice that I can offer that the experts on this forum haven't already suggested...my speciality is usually groceries and the like (it's amazing how far 4oz of mince can go!) but you seem to be doing brilliantly in that area. So you have my support and best wishes.

I too have a husband who buries his head in the sand when it comes to finances, however I appreciate that his strengths lie in other areas (not sure which areas, maybe Cornwall, Newcastle or the outer Hebrides!!) but I expect his unfailing support when I am doing the hard work to sort everything out and that is enough. As long as you can pull together you can get through anything and you two have gone through probably the worst thing a couple can face already, so a few notes and coppers won't come between you!

With my very best wishes

Oh, GeorgeUK it's lovely to hear from you. I'm so sorry about your Gran. She sounds like a feisty lady though, and she's probably quite right to avoid the chemo. I hope the doctors and everyone will support her in that. Thanks for what you say about the job. You're right though, it has given me a lot of confidence. I'm going to throw myself back into finding something else on Monday. As for the cheque, it hasn't been paid in, but I checked with National Debtline and they told me that our new bank A & L (not First Direct that closed our accounts) has no connections with any of our creditors, so if we can clear our overdraft (which is authorised up to £4000) which ought to be possible with the spread out bonus (no payrise yet, it's still under consideration) then that can be used as our "safe" account for the time being. I'm hoping that we'll get our other new account confirmed soon with Nationwide and use that as our spending account - no o/d facility and only a cashcard. Enforced self-discipline! Yes, the kids have forgiven us and are taking the less money in their stride. They only really need us after all, and we're here. All good things to you and your family - will be thinking of you. xx

Hi Fidge, thanks so much for the hug. Your husband does sound like mine. I do love him dearly (MY husband not yours!) His strengths are his patience and loyalty, but definitely not in taking the lead or organising. Reluctantly I'm doing all that but as you say, we've got through worse. Good luck with your situation too, and thanks so much for posting.

Hey forgetmenot just wanted to check in to see how you were feeling after the weekend as you mentioned weekends were your toughest times.

£53 pound on shopping although an o/s on last week is still better off and you should be proud of your self.

Remember that some days will be tough others will be easy and many will be ones you wont want to visit ever again but this community is always here with many of us in a similar situation and those are the best of people to help many of these people on here offer sound advice help or even just a ear to listen too

hope your doing well rob

Hi Rob, and thanks for those words of support. Yes the weekend was rough at times, and though today was supposed to be the start of the new push for jobs, I struggled to get into it. I have applied for a few online though, and hope I'll feel more like calling some agencies tomorrow. I've paid the last of the bills that needed paying from last month though, which is a good feeling. Next on my list is to go back to CCCS with our new budget and hope they'll be able to help us with a DMP. And sort out tax credits, but I seem to have a mental block there. Perhaps I'll just do the forms now before I start cooking the children's supper.

Hi FMN,

how is the job hunting going? I hope things are running more smoothly for you and your family.
We are in the quiet zone at the moment. All the payments are arranged and hopefully every 3-6 months the creditors will see all is being paid on time and allow the plan to continue. I don't want anymore stress!!
The hardest thing we have to do now is have holidays at home and do a lot of home cooking. Its like the good old days when I was small! Trips to town(haven't done since xmas) are on the ban list.

None of this is really hard to deal with and it kinda puts life into a proper perspective.

Best of luck with your plans.
