  • Thank you so much for that fc123. Writing is all I've ever really wanted to do, but because I've never been brave enough to try and get something published I don't know if I'd be any good. This book is different because it's my daughter's story. I'm not as afraid in some ways and even if it's never published, at least it will be there for the other children to read when they want to. I'll check out that website, thanks.

Well done with your debt, that's amazing. I dream of being able to pay off any of it, but I guess it's early days.

  • Verbatim - hey, yes! I posted the forms this morning and had a conversation with the Child Tax Credit people yesterday about a possible rebate on what we're owed. It really wasn't that hard when I sat down to do them and now I'm kicking myself that I didn't do them before.

  • babyharry, thank you. Yes, my husband infuriates me sometimes. Because we've had a bit of cash paid into our account, he came back from London on Friday night with 3 deli salamis and a bottle of red wine - a "bargain" for £10. Very nice, but we can't afford the children's swimming lessons so how can we justify that kind of treat? My husband is bad, but so are my children when it comes to food shopping. I took my daughter with me on Satruday and we ended up spending £73 - £20 more for the week than the previous one. We have to set up a system of spending cash only for both me and my husband though - I must organise that. OK, I'll stop dilligently replying to credit card companies. Apart from anything - the postage. I suppose it's like trying to reason with a machine at this stage.

    binnie - thanks!

Courgette - what a lovely thing to say. I cannot tell you how lucky I feel to have found this forum. I used the website before we were aware of the depth of our troubles, but this forum is just incredible. If I've made any progress it's entirely down to the advice and support of the many wonderful people here.

I will keep reading your thread and hopefully we will all achieve our debt free goals asap! Difficult when kids chuck things in trolley when shopping I know. When I told my daughter I didn't have money to spend on something she wanted she said "just get it from the cashpoint". I had to burst her bubble and explain that there has to be money in the account first!!

  • .... or "just get the shops to give us some more money"... (cashback!) If only life were so simple. Mind you, when my parents had financial troubles I offered to write "really good letters to the Tufty magazine, because they give you a pound each time you win the Star Letter" !
