  • ruby - my youngest is your daughter's age and my oldest is your son's! Tricky to find things they both like doing isn't it? Beach is something my oldest doesn't like, but she's been away this week so it was great yesterday. I'm going to find out about the Asda sports lessons for them all - and activities put on by the council - the library reading challenge is always good too, and totally free - even my oldest daughter likes that.

Fidget - thank you for those sugggstions - I'm asking for temp work too. Sales and Marketing is my background, though I enjoyed the marketing more (and was a bit rubbish at pure sales). I'm going to keep looking.

  • FMN - Have you considered becoming a Childminder? You'd be able to stay at home with your own kiddies in the holidays, and do the drop off/collection from school. Whilst you earn, you can still receive benefits - from what I recall, only one third of your childminding income is taken into account.

It may not be up your street, but I know many mums in similar situations who are able to bring in a decent amount, while staying at home.

Hope this may be of some use to you.

Hope a job turns up for you soon.
Which part of the country do you live in? Are you registered with the Job Centre?
Sometimes they will ring you once registered with them and they will put your name forward to any potential employers before they go out live.

Also the Job Centre has a website, and I found my job on there too.
I have found that taking any job is better than nothing as I was unemployed last year for 4 months and couldn't get the job I really wanted.
So I swallowed my pride and got a job where I now work and in the end it happens to be ok afterall. Not good pay, but my colleagues are lovely.

    BEST OF LUCK XX
  • Thank you lucielle, Y-L and Binnie. I guess pride does come into it. I don't really want to do a job I'm overqualified for (eughh! - I don't like the way that makes me sound!), but at the same time I have to realise that I may not find my ideal job first time around, especially as I haven't worked for so long. We urgently need the money. I should take a leaf from your book Binnie, and take something, anything so I can get out there and start earning. I feel we're at stalemate with the debt situation until then. In spite of our positive adjustments the CCCS told me we still don't have enough disposable income to set up a DMP. That's what I want more than anything at this point, because once that's in place it will really feel as though we've clawed back some control. I hate being the "wrong" side of the law as is were, not honouring our credit agreements - I suppose because it's new and not comfortable.

However, Monday is a new day!! Although I have the children home now, the two boys will be off with friends that day - I feel mentally stronger after the anniversary has passed and I will call the agencies I should have done, register with the Job Centre, etc. And next weekend my husband is taking the children to stay with his brother - meaning I can get on with my book. I'm so much more productive in total silence and solitude. I've given myself the deadline of the 1st Ocober to get it ready to send to agents - so I have a lot of work to do!

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.

  • Binnie - I'm in Essex.

Y-L -I'll think about the childminder route - I know there's a shortage here from looking myself. I suppose because I've had five myself, part of me shrinks from the idea of going back to nappies and babies as I've been doing it constantly for the last 14 years until recently... but as you say, with childminding you get to stay at home and you're always around for your own children, and there aren't many jobs like that!

I got this feeling from your previous posts before you actually came out and said it. I understand completely, however I can't remember from previous posts if you have said how long it is since you last worked? Because if you look at it from an employers viewpoint, even with your previous experience they may be reluctant to take you on in a similar role as you have been away from the workplace and may be considered a bit rusty(!) Also, you do need money coming in as a matter of priority. This is why I suggested temping. As I said it can often pay more and it at least gets you back into the workplace. Your CV would look a lot more attractive to a future employer if it had some current employment history on it.

As I said a disinteresting temp job can turn into a good permanent role. I went temping as a junior admin assistant 5 years ago, it was only on a month contract but I eventually left the company 4 years later as a Key Accounts Exec.

With a marketing background, merchandising may be a good option. I have a self employed merchandiser working for me who earns more than me through the volume of merchandising work she does!

Best wishes with your search.

Apparently, Mizmir, he is sunning himself in Costa Rica.....

I have to say, if I were to be in Costa Rica, going online would probably be reasonably low down my list of priorities..........
