Desperate, am I in the wrong place?

  • Hello

Haven't heard about the job, but I'm feeling relaxed about it. There are other jobs out there!

I've been talking to a financial advisor today about our endowment policy. It's a unit based one rather than a "with profits" type which means it's not sellable, though we can still redeem it (getting back slightly less than we've paid in...) Off the record he suggested we redeem it and use the funds to pay off part of the interest only portion of our mortgage and reduce our ourgoings that way... I need to look at the numbers more carefully. We need some of the cash in any case to clear our A & L overdraft, in the hope that we can keep a functioning bank account (with cheque book and debit card, NOT to go overdrawn again) for when things go pear shaped - I have applied for a new basic account unconnected with our creditors, but that could take weeks to come through. It's such a maze all this

    Hi FMN
Just caught up on your thread as I have not read for a few days due to a terrible cold, sore throat ect. Just wanted to say well done and good luck on getting the job.
Remember you will have bad days - initially you get carried away with sorting out everything and then you realise that its really hard being in for the long haul. This is when I find this forum brilliant. It can really lift you and you will also be able to help others.
Well done , you have acheived so much so quickly.

  • Thank you Paige, nice to see you. Hope your cold gets better soon.

    Hi FMN

Just checking in to see if you have heard anything yet - obviously not yet. My cold is much better thanks but still got a sore throat.
I lost one of my clients today, due to the credit crunch ( I do accounts for small businesses) I am great at working out everyone elses finances but really bad at my own:rotfl:
Hope you had a better day.

Thank you Paige, I did. Positive on the job in that I almost got it....! Looking for other things though with renewed self-confidence. Sorry you lost a client, but sure you'll get more - in this climate people need their accounts looking after more than ever.

I was without broadband for a couple of days, that's why I've been quiet.

I was a bit worried about you getting the job. With kids your age, you need a bit of time to sort out the childcare side of things and this sounded high pressured.

However, you now know that you are a good candidate with lots of transferable skills and you present well at interview.

Keep loooking and remember it is the first £5K worths on income that will have the most effect as that is tax and NI free, it has the same effect as OH getting an £8K rise.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

RAS - I know. I was a bit alarmed at the prospect of starting a ful time job within a week of starting to look, but I would have done it. I guess now I've got a bit of breathing space to get myself together. I'm excited about it! Thanks for those encouraging comments about my prospects.

Hi Pink Muppet - thanks for reading! Do you have a thread about your journey? You take care too.
