    Hi there
so glad you got on well - dont worry about making me cry - was only crying as felt guilty; i'm often whinging to hubby about our situation, and reading your story about everything you have gone through made me feel an absolute fake!!
I'm so glad it went well and the boss giving you a hard time is good news he clearly felt that you could cope with difficult questioning !
Have a fab weekend i'm having a glass of wine as well - the little one has his friend around for a sleepover and the eldest two are watching the tv - four boys and it's been bedlam but their settled now ( I HOPE!)
probably have me up at 3am screaming the place down - but wouldn't have it any other way!
    speak soon

You are too also in my thoughts, having someone in the family with cancer is never an easy thing to deal with.

However, I must add, that the OP will not benefit from living off the state, she will be in a far worse situation and to be quite frank the state is there incase of financial hardship, in your case an illness, the OP and her husband are not ill, they are both fit and well.

Yes, it's hard to make sense of my post - I agree. However, I was referring mainly to Child Tax Credits which are an entitlement to help those with families. It's one of the oddities of the system that you can be considerably better-off with several children (I only have one) and a modest income of 15k if you claim TC. I know I was off-message here, but thought I'd throw-in this random consideration. The OP would be better-off, would be entitled to free prescriptions & have more of a balanced work/life experience with less outgoings in terms of travel. I won't say any more ... put it down to my chemo brain!
  • Statement of Affairs and Personal ....
    Personal Balance Sheet Summary
Total assets (things you own)........... 409,000

SELL YOUR HOUSE ...IF YOU THINK YOU CAN GET £400,000.
    ....
THEN PAY OFF YOUR BILLS, RENT .....

....AND IN 2-5 YEARS BUY IT BACK FOR £200,000 ...or LESS

James - thank you so much for that. Regarding the state, as you suggested, I wouldn't want to take someone else's safety net when me and my husband are fit and well. It does make you think though. I'm making (I hope) the fact that I will be working a positive thing for the children. I'll be back before their teatime, but also I want to be a good role model for them - for my daughters to see that women, too, can have good jobs.

This is the answer I expected! You're clearly a lady of warmth and integrity - hence, again, why you've so many replies. I didn't take a penny from the State until my illness last year, so thoroughly endorse your view. However, as a short-term tactic to allow you time to re-group it might have been something to consider. The system really does support families.

    James,

I do hope that life is now better for you and your family.

All the very best to you,

  • Thank you James, I'm really touched by what you say. I really wish you all the best for your treatment. I think our country is great (I know that's not a fashionable view) but we're very good at providing for the people who need it. Aside from our NHS (again, fashionable to knock - but they were more than brilliant when our daughter was ill, and beyond I might add), look at our FREE debt counselling services. We're very lucky...xx

  • Sharon - please don't feel guilty either - you can only deal with what you're dealing with, and the worst situation you've ever been in, is the worst situation you've ever been in, regardless of what's happening to other people. xx

Oh dear, it's getting to that time of night when I'm going to start posting nonsense because of extreme fatigue. I fell asleep in my four year old's bed when I was saying good night to her at 7.45! Time to sleep I think... night all. xx
