I am wishing you all the best for you interview.

I fully understand about the mobile, as a parent myself, I am fortunate though that both schools, the junior and high school are within 10 minutes walk from my home and so i cannot justify a mobile. If the children are ill, then they will have to leave a message on the answerphone as they had too ten years ago before mobiles were commonplace. I would be of a different opinion though if I had a child who had to travel by train.

I am pleased to read you have Life insurance for the pair of you, its so important but often overlooked.

Have u tried a Hippo in the toilet, it prevents a too much water wastage, I got some free from my water company, take alook at your water company when you have time and see if you can get some.

  • I meant to go to bed but ended up reading this whole thread from start to finish. What an inspiration you are forgetmenot! I am new to this site and your thread has really given me a boost, ...it's not the end but the beginning! Goodluck with the interview. Tommorrow I shall go on the local council webssite like someone suggested and see what work there is.

    Morning Forgetmenot

Just on what others have said - I think you do need to allow yourself more for groceries. Some people perform miracles but I struggle to keep our grocery bill under £360/month for a family of six.

And I'm sure you can cut down the mobile phone expenses a bit too. I have four children at school too and I use less than £10/month on my PAYG. My two 13 year old daughters walk 2 miles to school each day but also compete in sports all over the county and have to arrange their own transport - I don't even top up their phones every three months. If you regard mobiles only for real emergencies, you find you barely ever need to use them.

But anyway - the most important thing to say today is: Good luck at the interview! Hope it goes well and please come on and tell us as lots of people will be thinking of you today!

  • Jacks, Jelly Babies, Seaxwyn, babyharry, t.i.a. and Merlot, thanks so much for good luck wishes!! Interview's at 2 this afternoon - not feeling nervous at the moment which probably means I will be horribly nervous when I get there. Still, it's good experience to be having an interview after not working for 14 years, and there are other jobs out there if this isn't the right one.

turningitaround - wow, thank you but I really don't deserve the hero accolade. I have a long way to go to sort out these problems and even then I'll only be sorting out something that should never have happened in the first place! Thank you though! Lots of luck with your job hunting and problem solving too. xx

seaxwyn - I think you're right, when I talk to the DMP people next week I'll have to allow more for food shopping - I don't want us to be miserable/starving for the next XXX years unitl our debt is repaid! I'll definitely get a PAYG next time. You have twin 13 yr old daughters??!

Merlot - I'll find out about the hippo, for the evironment if for no other reason. Our water is rated not metered though, and a website test I did showed that with the number of people in the house/bathrooms (power shower), we'd be paying even more if it were metered... thanks for the idea though.

Yes I have twin 13 year old daughters - but this time next month, I will have twin 14 year old daughters. Eek!

  • forgetmenot, I do understand that the finances are where they are now due to overspending, we are all here for that! But don't belittle the huge step you have taken here.I regard a hero as someone who does something momentous that is against their usual nature, not someone who's natural instinct is to be brave/ a do-gooder etc. Everyone on here who has changed themselves should be so proud!
I think I will start a diary on here if only for myself. Having to sit down and put it out there exactly what you have been up to will be a great psychological boost

  • FMN - How well you've done in such a short time. I seriously think that once you face your fears/demons, then the only way is up.
I sincerely hope you get the job this afternoon, and that you can begin to worry less about the financial problems.

    You are doing SO WELL!!
