Guys I know this ain't my board but something does seem to get regularly forgotten when it comes to the passion of animals:

BE NICE TO ALL MONEY SAVERS! EVEN IF YOU DISAGREE (unless they happen to be a debt collector or bailiff in which case they're fair game!)

Seriously... throwing personal insults at each other... *sigh* imagine what could be acchieved if all that negative energy was channelled into something positive... like helping out at the local dogs home, spending 30 minutes with an old person all alone in their home every day and every evening, comforting someone who thought they might be about to loose their house, job and family...

Bury the hatchetts for goodness sakes and remember that there just isn't time for so much anger... Today I saw another fatal carcrash... what i your last ever post was one made in anger like the ones above?

    Be nice.... please?

I agree with you , life's too short. I have been trying to drop this for the past couple of hours and am more than happy to be civil and friendly.

I agree totally and thankfully Ive not made one single post to this thread in anger.

Just once again posted evidence that not all dogs are true to(stereo) type - nothing more.

    I now bow out

Oh and by the way I don't agree with dressing up dogs in outfits - but even I have to sat that the staffy in a santa's outfit looks rather - dare I say it - cute! :)
Someone bought one of my cats a "beware of owner" T-shirt once... I'd love to say he freaked... alas he turned over so they could scratch his belly... so much for being independant and what not... lazy git.
I hasten to add said item has been disposed off but I think a picture of the even does exist... I shall look for it tomorrow :)

Before you go getting all defensive, tbain, cast your mind back to some of the comments you saw fit to direct at me. A couple of choice examples are:

"So lets not broaden this argument, it may be too much of a strain on your brain!"

    "naive and stupid."

You're right, I was trying to have a civil debate, but I certainly didn't get one in return, did I? So for you to be playing the "I'm upset, people are mean" card now sticks in my throat a little. You let your posts degenerate into cattiness and name calling long before anyone else.

Having said that, I'm more than happy to let the matter drop and move on. I'm not the type to hold a grudge and I wish you good luck and happiness with your dog. :)

MrsTine - That dog owner won't be happy about you calling the Santa Dog a Staffy! ;) 'Tis an English Bull Terrier (and a lovely one at that. :) )

I reckon enough has been said on here now and that OP has had plenty of advice given. What a pity it isn't her that actually needs it!

    All the best folks.

There are methods to prepare dogs for the arrival of a baby, but if they are struggling with basic training and it doesn't like children then its better to try and rehome or PTS. I wouldn't like to comment on whether it is "vicious" as unless you know the situations then the dog may not of been entirely at fault.

Most dogs that end up with a bad reputation are down to owners and not the breed itself. The GSD's, rotties and staffies i've met have been lovely dogs but they all had reponsible owners. I guess its very much like kids if you don't give them a good education with rules & discipline then you can't moan when they go off the rails and show no respect.

I think its a bad idea to assume that a small dog is going to be safer simply because of its stature/jaw size. All dogs can make light work of flesh, its what there teeth are designed for and it all depends on where the dogs bites as to its seriousness. Its worth considering that a small dog is likely to be more easy to use as a plaything for a toddler and therefore feel more threatened.

I have greyhounds which are very docile and tolerant. They have met my young neices/nephews but i find i have to constantly tell the kids not to do stupid things, one of them tried to climb on Hector like a pony  so i hate to think how they might behave if i wasn't there. Also the dogs often sleep with their eyes open so kid might not realise its asleep and then startle the dog. There is no way i'd ever leave a child unsupervised with any dog becuase i don't think its fair on either party.

    :rotfl:

Don't let my breeder hear you say that? Staffy indeed! That's an English Bull terrier!
I must admit, I'm not one for dressing up dogs as a rule, but I have found that she gets a better reaction in public if she's wearing a bandana or the like
That said, I did get her a ballerina tutu kind of dress (LOL). She ripped it off in seconds. She also has a couple of 'hoodies'. She's not full grown in that picture - she's about four months old there! She's not huge though even now she's just about full grown (1 in August) She's a teeny girl :D
She sulked with me after having that photo done. It was like she was saying 'oh the injustice and humiliation' LOL.
She did have santa boots as well but they wouldn't stay on. Drat.
Proud to be dealing with my debts :T
